Family's Introduction to Au Pair
Job Description
The childcare responsibilities will involve caring for our baby during the day. This may include taking him for walks, playing with him, following his feeding and sleeping routines, and looking after him to enable me to attend appointments or spend some one-to-one time with our older son. The role will also occasionally involve helping with our older son’s after-school activities and routines.
Alongside childcare, the position will include children’s and general laundry, ironing, organising the children’s clothes and bedrooms, tidying, light household tasks, occasional errands and shopping, and simple meal preparation when helpful.
We already have support with cleaning, so during the week this is not primarily a heavy-cleaning position. The household element is generally about helping us stay organised and on top of everyday family life. We are looking for someone who notices what needs doing, is comfortable taking initiative and can move naturally between childcare and practical family support.
The usual schedule will combine mornings and afternoons during the week. Mornings will generally be approximately 08:30–11:30, with some slightly longer mornings, and afternoon support will generally be approximately 15:00–18:00, depending on the day. There is some flexibility around the exact schedule, which can be discussed with the right candidate.
During the ski season, we would ideally like additional support on Fridays and Saturdays, combining childcare with housekeeping and cleaning duties. The exact hours and arrangement can be discussed and agreed with the right candidate.
There may also be opportunities for occasional evening babysitting, always arranged by mutual agreement.
The ideal candidate will be:
• Warm, caring and confident with babies and young children
• Reliable, trustworthy and dependable
• Proactive and willing to use their initiative
• Naturally organised, practical and attentive
• Comfortable working independently
• Flexible and happy to undertake a varied family-assistant role
• Interested in developing a positive, long-term relationship with our family
Previous experience caring for babies and young children is essential. Experience as a nanny, family assistant or nanny-housekeeper would be ideal. A childcare qualification and paediatric first-aid training would be an advantage.
A good working level of both English and French is essential. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in Switzerland and be able to provide excellent, checkable references and the appropriate Swiss criminal-record documentation.
What we offer:
• A warm, welcoming and respectful working environment
• Competitive pay reflecting experience and qualifications
• A varied and rewarding role with both childcare and family-support responsibilities
• A regular weekly schedule with some flexibility by mutual agreement
• A position primarily focused on childcare, organisation and practical household support
• Trust and autonomy, with the opportunity to use your initiative
• Clear expectations and open, considerate communication
• The opportunity to build a stable, positive and long-term relationship with our family
• The option to live in, if preferred
The position is part-time and based in Geneva. It may be arranged as either live-out or live-in, depending on the candidate’s preference and the agreed terms. The start date is flexible and can be agreed with the successful candidate.
