We are looking for an experienced, kind and dependable caregiver to look after an older married couple in their own home. Both have dementia. Two other caregivers cover the weekdays, so this position completes the team.
This is a 48-hour live-in weekend shift, every week and ongoing. You are the only caregiver in the house for the full shift.

THE SHIFT
* 48 hours, live-in, one weekend every week.
* Usual pattern is Saturday morning through to Monday morning
* We can be flexible on the exact start and finish
* Friday evening to Sunday evening could also work
* Tell us what suits you and we will try to fit it around the rota

WHO YOU WILL CARE FOR

The wife:
* Walks with a cane and is mobile
* Needs help with her health conditions, meals and drinking enough water
* Needs help with physiotherapy exercises, supervise her washing and dressing, and managing pain

The husband:
* Uses a walker when supervised to walk
* Needs help with incontinence diapers, moving and eating
* Needs help with physiotherapy movements and daily foot care
* Both must be cared for on every shift. Looking after one and not the other is not acceptable.

WHAT THE JOB INVOLVES
* Personal care for both, including bathing, dressing, toileting and safe movement around the house
* Feeding the husband slowly and carefully, watching for each swallow, and stopping the moment he signals he has had enough. This is an important safety task in the job
* Giving medication on time and writing it down
* Cooking meals for the couple and for yourself, including some batch cooking at the weekend
* Talking with them and keeping them company. Doing simple tasks for memory care with them. This is an important dementia care part of the job. Sitting quietly in the room is not enough, and television is not a substitute for company
Light housekeeping, laundry, changing bed linen and preparing grocery shopping
* Writing up the daily care record as you go, and sending it in at the end of every shift
* Following the set steps for falls, illness, fire and hurricanes

AT NIGHT
* You stay on duty both nights
* You can sleep, but you must stay alert
* Set an alarm and check on them every two hours
* There is a monitor in the husband’s room in case he calls out

HOW THE HOME IS RUN
* There is a written care handbook covering every routine, and full training before you start
* The routines are specific and they are not optional, so this job suits someone who is happy to follow a written plan exactly
* There is a camera system in the home, for elder care and falls, so you need to be comfortable with that
* You must be able to work on your own without being reminded
* Anything worrying is reported straight away, not at the end of the shift

WHAT YOU NEED
* An NVQ-J Level 2 in Care or a similar recognised qualification
* Experience caring for older people with dementia
* Experience with personal care, including washing, toileting and feeding someone who cannot manage alone
* Able to give medication on time and keep accurate records
* Able to cook full meals
* Able to read and write clearly in English
* Able to commit to the same weekend shift every week, ongoing
* Two contactable references
* This is a Jamaica-based position. We cannot offer visa sponsorship or overseas placement

GOOD TO HAVE
* Police Clearance certificate, or be willing to get one
* First aid or CPR training
* Experience supporting physiotherapy or mobility exercises
* Experience working as part of a care team on a rota
* Own transport
