Dear future au pair,
Hello! We are so excited to meet you and cannot wait to welcome you into our family. We are currently looking for our next au pair. Our current au pair is from France and she extended with us. Her time with our family will end in May 2025. We are happy to connect her to au pairs who are interested in our family.
Our names are Mark and Amy and we are parents to a wonderful, funny little boy named Scott. Amy's parents and family live close by and they're here helping often. Both Mark and Amy work from home but have a lot of flexibility with their jobs. Mark works in tech and Amy is an event planner.
We live in Southern California (about 1 hour north of Los Angeles) in a wonderful beach town called Ventura. We are close to Santa Barbara (45 minutes south) and are lucky to have warm weather for most of the year (typically in the low 70s). At the coldest, it gets into the 50-60 degree range. Ventura is the suburbs, but not small (population is about 100,000), but it isn’t a big city. Public transportation isn’t good so you’ll rely on driving to get around. We’re about 4 miles from the beach.
Scott turned 6 in December and we love him very much. He is curious, smart and active. As of now, he is not walking independently, but we do a lot of physical therapy to help him with standing and we hope he will start walking soon. His favorite things are songs/music, stories, books and going for walks. He is verbally delayed, but saying many new words and starting to speak in small sentences. He is currently in Kindergarten and takes the bus to school. You will need to be a good driver to help us with driving him to appointments and activities in the afternoon.
We moved into our home in 2020 – it is a large, modern new home with a big open-plan kitchen, dining and living room. We have several bathrooms and lots of natural light.

We have a pool, so if you like swimming, that is great. We love to cook and love food, if you like cooking and good food, you'll fit right in.

Your room will be right off the living room, there is a bathroom right there. Scott uses that bathroom to take a bath. He is still using diapers.
Mark has two older boys (20 and 23) that are in college and live away from home. They come to visit on vacation and holidays.
Our schedule is pretty consistent (a split schedule, where you’ll work in the morning to help get Scott ready for school), and then work in the afternoon once he is home from school to help with after school, dinner and bath time. We do ask our au pair to work 2 weekends a month (usually on Sunday afternoon) so we can get a little break, but we are very flexible in terms of which weekends. We try to have the au pair schedule end early afternoon on Fridays to make it easier if you’d like to go away for a weekend. Our current au pair has traveled to places like New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Mexico and San Francisco during her time here.
