Family's Introduction to Au Pair
We can imagine that it may feel exciting to take a leap of faith by leaving your
country and all you know. We would hope that we can make this transition easier for
you. While we have not personally moved to another country to a new family, we
both have lived outside of the U.S., and have immersed ourselves in a new culture.
This was actually an exciting thing for us, and has shaped how we view and see the
world ~ as citizens of the world. We are the Mueller/Nenemay family: Kimberly,
Christopher and Julian. San Diego, California is where we reside for the last five
years, and prior to this, we lived in NYC for many years. In San Diego, there are
many things to enjoy, whether it’s the beach (about 25 min from our house), to the
mountains and hiking trails (5 min away to the nearest trails). Restaurants, theater,
night-life, water-sports, art- whatever you like, it is available here for the most part.
The climate is mild and rainy in the winter, and can get hot in the summer. There
are mountains in the area that also get snow!
More about Julian: he is the light of our life. He will be turning 2 years old at the
end of November. We hope that you will build a strong bond with our son, as he
connects with people, with a soft energy, fairly easily. Julian was very much wanted,
and we waited many years to have a successful pregnancy and birth. He is our
pride and joy. We feel so excited when he meets a developmental milestone (like
saying a new word), that we would hope you'd feel the same, as you get to know
him and hopefully, feel invested in his growth and development. Julian likes to
engage in many activities at home, which include reading, drawing, crafts, dancing,
playing with his trucks and cars, water play and simply being playful with his
care-givers. Outside, we like to bring him to parks, playgrounds, the world-famous
San Diego Zoo, the beach, local reservoirs, as well as to the local libraries for
toddler classes and music. He has been swimming since he was 6 months old, and
put him in swim classes seasonally. Being an experienced driver is essential for this
job, as most activities require driving/use of a car. We currently have one car for the
family, and will be getting a second car as our au pair is arriving. The au pair is
welcome to use the car for work and personal usage, as long as the need is
communicated with us.
Both Christopher and myself, Kimberly, work for ourselves. I work from home
(I’m a psychologist in private practice) and schedule myself M-F, but my schedule
varies by day. Christopher (an architect) has an office outside of the home that he
will be working from and will be away from the home from 9am-6 pm most days. We
enjoy family time together in the evenings, by cooking, eating together, playing and
preparing for bedtime with Julian, by reading books and bath time. On the
weekends, we like to get out of the house, and have some fun around town: whether
it's the beach, using our sailboat, day trips to local spots in the area to explore, the
Zoo, or playgrounds. You are welcome to join us on activities that you’d like, as we
want you to explore San Diego and feel welcomed to our family. We take vacations
on occasion, as our family does not live in San Diego; we may be traveling to
Montana or somewhere for a long weekend. Our family does come to visit on
occasion, to include both grandmothers on a regular basis.
San Diego has many different universities and colleges in the area, so having an
educational opportunity should not be a problem for you. We want this exchange to
be a good and fruitful experience for you, and hope you gain, not only a new family,
but friendships for life. We know people who have hosted au pairs when they had
small children, and have nothing to say but positive things ~ hopefully this is positive
for all of us!
We look forward to having us join our family !
Warmly,
Kimberly, Christopher and Julian
