I'm naturally drawn to seniors. I've lived with my grandmother most of my life and had the honor of being raised properly by her and my mom. By admiring the way they cared for me and others, it was only right that when the day came that I'd have the honor by returning that favor.
My grandmother was diabetic and hypertensive. We had a thing where I'd never leave the house without her seeing and admiring me from head toe, blessing me before I go (mentioning every inch of me) . Well, in 2018 before heading out, I went into her room to show her me, unfortunately I found her in a diabetic shock. Because of her auto immune I knew that her sugar had dropped so I assisted in doing that until she regained consciousness. She was taken to the hospital for observation and that's when we found out she had terminal cancer (so the doctor said) and was given a few months to live.
After she was released and was ok to go come home, my mom & I then became her caretakers. From that day to her dying day which was over 6yrs later (she lived longer than the doctors anticipated), we nurtured her in everyway possible. From documenting meals and medication, to pressure and sugar checks, bathing and changing, maintenance of her hands,feet and hair, regular doctor visits, therapeutic exercises for proper blood flow to even having to resuscitate.
She & I did everything together, I have photos and videos as reference to show how amazing she was. Two years ago August she passed.
Sadly, my mom followed a year later (same month, just a week and a few days apart). I cared for her as well, and if I was asked to do it all over again for the both of them, I WOULD.
