My name is Pricilla, I am 23 years old, and I come from the beautiful island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. I am excited to introduce myself and share a bit about my background, my experiences, and why I would love the opportunity to become an au pair in the United States.
I grew up in a warm, loving family with one older sister and three younger siblings aged 18, 12, and 10. Being part of a large family has taught me valuable life lessons such as patience, responsibility, and the ability to understand and care for children with various needs and personalities. Growing up, I took an active role in helping my parents care for my younger siblings, especially when it came to managing their day-to-day activities. This hands-on experience helped me develop strong childcare skills, including time management, organizing activities, and creating a nurturing environment for children.
My childcare journey started at home and continued with additional experiences outside of my family. I spent significant time supervising my younger cousin when she was around seven years old. We played pretend cooking games, practiced reading, and enjoyed various outdoor activities together. During a family trip to Bali, I was responsible for ensuring her safety and comfort, which further solidified my passion for caring for children. This experience was a turning point for me as I realized how much I enjoy connecting with children and providing them with guidance and support.
In addition to my informal childcare experiences, I have also had formal experience working with children in my previous job at Pizza Hut. I had the privilege of leading children’s events, where I guided groups of 10-20 kids from various schools in fun educational activities. One of the most memorable sessions was teaching the children how to make pizza. I introduced myself, led warm-up songs, explained hygiene practices, and walked them through the steps of pizza preparation. Managing large groups of children helped me develop skills in organization, energy management, patience, and public speaking, which are all crucial qualities for an au pair.
While living in Yogyakarta, I had the opportunity to volunteer at a local children’s home. I spent the day engaging in play and assisting children with simple learning activities. One particular child left a lasting impression on me—a very sweet boy whom I spent most of my time with, helping him throughout the day. This experience reinforced my love for children and reminded me how deeply I connect with them.
Aside from my childcare experiences, I am a very active person with a wide range of interests. I enjoy photography, swimming, diving, and playing the guitar. These activities not only keep me physically active but also allow me to express my creativity. I find joy in learning new things, and I look forward to bringing that same enthusiasm and energy to the children I care for. I believe in creating a fun and enriching environment where children can explore their creativity, learn, and grow.
In terms of my driving experience, I am a new driver and have been driving for a short period of time. While I do not yet have experience driving with infants, I am eager to improve my skills and gain more confidence on the road. I understand that this may limit some of my placement options, but I am patient and willing to work hard to meet the requirements of my role. I am committed to making sure that I am fully prepared to be the best au pair I can be.
The reason I want to become an au pair is that I love working with children, and I am eager to immerse myself in a new culture. I see this as an incredible opportunity to not only enhance my English language skills but also to gain valuable life experiences that will help me grow both personally and professionally. I chose the United States because of its diverse culture and the chance to experience life in a country that offers a unique perspective on child-rearing, education, and daily life.
I believe a host family should choose me because of my patience, caring nature, and adaptability. I am dedicated to building strong, meaningful relationships with the children I care for, and I always strive to create a supportive and positive environment.
