Introduction
In Italy, I lived in-house with an elderly gentleman who was struggling with a dementia disorder. Living with someone who required daily assistance gave me the opportunity, as a caregiver, to deeply understand his needs and preferences, allowing me to provide more personalized care. I established a consistent schedule that included preparing breakfast and dinner, assisting with housekeeping in a home that became like my own, and helping with bathing, personal hygiene, medication, and grocery shopping.
After moving to the USA, I cared for a teenage girl with autism, keeping the environment around her tidy and encouraging healthy behavior as a live-out nanny.
Later, as I cared for my husband during the final months of his life, I gained even more experience. I learned techniques for supporting those with limited ability, and I persevered through difficult times, all while maintaining other household responsibilities.
After my husband's passing, I lived-in with a family to temporarily care for a 90 year old man on weekdays. Now that the relatives are able to care for him again, I seek a caregiver opportunity again with an Italian or Arabic speaking family in Maryland, Virginia, or New Jersey.
