My name is Jennifer Gak Deng, and I am a 28-year-old from South Sudan. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope that through these few words you can get to know me a little better.

I grew up in a large family where helping to care for younger siblings and relatives was simply part of everyday life. Being surrounded by children taught me to be patient, caring, and responsible from a young age. Spending time with children has always brought me joy, and I truly enjoy watching them learn, grow, and discover the world around them.

For the past four years, I have helped care for my sister's children. One of them I looked after from the age of one until four years old, so I experienced many important milestones with them—from learning to talk and play to becoming more independent. Those years taught me how important love, patience, and consistency are in a child's life.

One of my sister's children is autistic, and caring for them has been one of the most meaningful experiences in my life. It taught me to understand that every child is different and deserves to be loved, respected, and supported in their own unique way. I learned to stay calm, be patient, celebrate small achievements, and create an environment where a child feels safe and understood.

I speak English, Kiswahili, and Dinka, and I have a driving licence. I am also happy to help with light household tasks such as preparing simple meals, doing laundry, and keeping the children's areas clean and organised.

I am currently applying for my passport, and once it is ready, I will begin the visa process so I can travel to join my host family.

For me, becoming an au pair is about much more than travelling. It is a chance to become part of another family, experience a new culture, and build meaningful relationships. I hope to share my culture with you as well, while learning from yours. My wish is to become someone your children feel comfortable with, someone they can laugh, play, learn, and grow with every day.
