I grew up very close to my father, who worked diligently at the mine in Rosh Pinah. As a single parent, he raised me and my two brothers, despite having nine children in total. He had several women in his life, and I never had the opportunity to experience my mother’s love. This absence shaped my childhood, but it also strengthened my independence and resilience. My father’s guidance and support became central to my upbringing, instilling in me values of discipline, responsibility, and perseverance.
Following the loss of his job at the mine, our family relocated to the village, where I attended school from grade seven to grade ten. The school, though modest in resources, fostered a strong sense of community and personal development. Teachers provided individualized guidance, emphasizing not only academic achievement but also the cultivation of character, responsibility, and integrity. These formative experiences helped me adapt to change, develop independence, and build a foundation for lifelong learning.
In 2023, I was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, which presented additional challenges. Following my diagnosis, I stayed with my paternal grandmother in the village, who provided stability and care during a period of uncertainty. Later, I moved to Windhoek, where I currently live with my maternal grandparents. Their support has been invaluable, providing a nurturing and structured environment that allows me to focus on my academic and personal growth. Living with my grandparents has taught me gratitude, respect, and the importance of family bonds beyond the immediate household.
Currently, I am pursuing a degree in communications in Windhoek. This represents both my academic ambitions and my commitment to personal development. While I no longer live with my father and do not receive direct support from him, the values instilled during my upbringing—discipline, perseverance, and responsibility—continue to guide my academic and personal pursuits. My experiences have shaped me into an independent, motivated individual, capable of managing challenges and pursuing opportunities with focus and determination.
