Family's Introduction to Au Pair
We are so excited to welcome you as our 4th au pair into our family! We enjoy having a partner in childcare that enriches our children’s education and our family life at home. We are two busy working parents and having a trusted third caregiver is essential to our family. It is our hope that you will want to participate in family life, be a loving caregiver and bring your culture into our home. We are excited to share our family and cultural traditions with you as well!
You will make lots of friends while you are living with us - our area has a lively restaurant scene and tons of au pairs from all over the world. We know how important it is for you to travel, meet new friends and experience life in America. We are here to help you achieve all your goals, including travel tips, cultural exchange, American cooking, helping improve your English, exploring NYC and anything else you want to do.
A little about our family is that Tamir is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon with a busy schedule and fascinating work. If you are interested, he’ll tell you all about being a surgeon! He loves cycling, baking pies, grilling in our backyard and has a passion for art, especially photography.
Leah’s career is in sustainable international development. She was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco and Senegal, and lived with host families. Currently, she works for a philanthropic foundation making grants in Latin America. Some days she commutes into NYC, and other days she works from home. Leah takes a horseback riding once a week, goes to the local gym, and sometimes gardens and knits as well.
Asher is 3.5 years old and loves cars, trucks, buses and airplanes. He builds with his magnetic blocks and legos, reads, and rides his tricycle. He loves going to the park and trying out all the slides. He's a really fun and active kid to play with, and is very independent.
Our younger son, Matan is 1.5 years old. He is sweetheart and is learning and changing so quickly. He is starting to say a few words, he likes to dance, read, do summersaults and draw. He gives great snuggles and looks up to his older brother. One important note about Matan: He is allergic to peanuts and we carry and EPI-pen wherever he goes. We don’t keep food in the house that is not safe for him to eat, and we have a system set up so that we never forget his medication. We will keep him safe and healthy together!
Childcare is a tough job, and we recognize the challenges. To make sure we have the best year possible, we’re looking for an au pair with excellent English skills, a willingness to communicate, desire to have fun with us and the children, and a great work ethic. We hope to have an open and honest relationship with you, where we truly have fun while doing the work for the children and around the house. As your host family, we are willing to go the extra mile for you in many ways - let us know how to help you feel comfortable in our home and neighborhood. By the end of your year, you will have a second family in New Jersey and be a master at American living!
We can’t wait to hear what you want out of your au pair experience. Let’s find a time to talk and get to know each other better.
Warmly,
Leah, Tamir, Asher and Matan
Job Description
Both kids are enrolled in a preschool program five days a week - two mornings and three half days. You will have a split schedule to help us get the kids to school in the morning, and then resume for pick up and afternoon care. There will be weekly date nights, usually on Thursdays, and occasionally some weekend work. We always provide your schedule a month in advance, and are flexible if you need to adjust the schedule for your own plans. Sometimes we need to change the schedule at the last minute, but we try to keep that to a minimum. Your schedule will be less than 45 hours a week.
We are seeking a partner in our childcare and an excellent roommate and new family member. We hope to develop a long term relationship with a mature, kind and loving individual. We can't wait to meet you!
