Hello, my name is Bethany. Since I was little, I've wanted to be an au pair. I love working with children. Their innocence and enthusiasm for life are inspiring and heart-warming to me. Also, I love languages ??and I enjoy meeting different people. Currently, I don't have a driver's license, but I'm taking driving lessons and hope to pass my test in May. I can be shy at times, but I'm becoming more and more confident. I'm very empathetic and understanding. I'm a good listener and I care deeply about others. I'm also very cheerful and I love being creative. I'm a responsible and organized person, but I also like to be spontaneous and open. I live in Cambridgeshire with my parents. My mother works as a teacher at a school for children with special needs. She is training to become a senior communication practitioner (speech and language therapy). My father works for Illumina as a software engineer. My parents met in Geneva when my mother was working there as an au pair, and my father did his PhD at CERN.
They married in Geneva in 2002. I have an older sister who is twenty. She started university this year, where she is studying English literature. We are very close; she is one of my best friends. I obtained my GCSEs in 2024 and I am currently in my final year of secondary school (A-levels), where I am studying mathematics, psychology, and drama. I plan to start university in September 2027 and hope to study psychology.
When I was sixteen, I did work experience at a preschool where I spent the day playing with the children and reading to them. Additionally, I was a student director for my secondary school play, and for each performance, I was the chaperone for the youngest performers. This involved doing their hair before the show, supervising them backstage, helping them manage their stage fright, and generally making sure they could give their best performance. I have volunteered with a group of children aged two to five
for the past five years. I have also babysat for several families, which has included looking after children in their homes and taking them on outings to the park. I currently babysit four children each week, aged three to ten. I have been babysitting them for almost two years.
I love performing and I'm a member of a theatre group called SYD. I find it fascinating to play different characters. I love to sing. I take singing lessons and I always have a song in my head. Sometimes, when the children I babysit have trouble sleeping, I sing them a lullaby. Honestly, I love music. I play the flute and the piano. I also played the violin for eight years. So, I would be happy to help children learn to play an instrument. I love going to the theatre and I often take trips to London with my best friend to see new plays. I really enjoy swimming, and my family says no amount of time spent swimming will ever satisfy me. I play football every Tuesday, but I'm not very
good; it's just for fun. I love to read. Also, I've always loved writing my own stories. Last year, I wrote a short book for a school project. I really enjoy playing card games and board games. I love walking in nature and I used to spend hours exploring the woods near my home with my sister.
I took the GCSE French exam and got a 9, which is the highest possible grade in GCSE. Since then, I haven't practised as much, but I've done some exercises on Duolingo and I’ve been reading a French book.
As I said earlier, I love working with children. I hope to become a child psychologist someday, so being an au pair would allow me to gain valuable experience in working with children and their parents. I also want to experience living abroad and would like to improve my French.
I want to be treated like a member of the family. I am looking for an au pair position in France, near Geneva. I would love to take the children on outings, help them with their homework, and play with them. I would be happy to help with household chores related to childcare and preparing meals for the children. I enjoy baking and would love to bake with them.
I don't eat meat, meat substitutes, or fish, but I have no problem living with a family that does.
