Dear Host Family
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.
My name is Alina, I am 22 years old. I am from an Eastern European country called Ukraine. Currently, I am living with my grandmother in Izmail. This is a city on the Danube River in Odesa Oblast in south-western Ukraine. I was born and raised here by my mother and grandparents.
To be honest, in the beginning, I wasn't interested in children at all. This is not surprising since I was a child myself. I was the only child in the family, the youngest member of it. When I was 13, my uncle's daughter Vera was born. I was stubborn and did not want to approach her. This went on for more than a year, until one day I was left to look after her for a few minutes. After that day something switched in me. Since then we have become very close. But not only has that changed. I started to like children. I spent a lot of time with Vera over the years. I was often left to babysit her. I fed her, played with her, and studied with her. I made her interesting breakfasts and snacks, we cooked together. We played so many games, had as much fun as we could.
I was often more impressed with being in the company of children. So when it came time to choose a university, I decided to enter the pedagogical one. I enrolled in Special Education. There I studied pedagogy, psychology and other disciplines necessary for working with children with special needs. I did my internship in the kindergarten. It was quite fun with the kids. I worked with them using various didactic materials. We also played, I read books to them. There was a very friendly atmosphere.
In September 2022 I was offered a job as a tutor with two children. So I started to study with Marina and Slavik. Their family was very sweet to me. I came to their home, helped them with homework and learning the topic. Marina was 10 years old when I started. She is a very active and charismatic girl. I had so much fun working with her. We studied using various board games. She really liked them. So did I. Her brother was 13 years old and it was really pleasant to work with him as well.
In October, I started teaching mathematics at the Suzirya tutoring center for grades 3-10. I had different age groups of 1-10 students. Classes were both online and offline. I also taught English classes for preschoolers and grades 3-10 for 2 weeks.
I think my favorite thing about children is their purity, sincerity and openness. I love to see them shine. I'm always kind and gentle with them, which is probably why they like me. I am a calm person. I like listening to music, enjoying delicious food, coming up with something interesting and finding beauty in life. I would like to meet a nice and friendly family with whom we could help each other and learn a lot of new things.
