Introduction
Dear Future Host Family,
My name is Emeryl, but everyone calls me Em. I’m 20 years old and I grew up in Makati City, one of the busiest cities in the central region of the Philippines. Although my family already has moved outside that city, I still consider it my true home — it’s where many of my favorite memories, places, and people are.
My favorite people would describe me as an upbeat and silly friend who likes to joke around and make her people laugh. However, I’m also someone my friends turn to when they need a good listener or advice. Just like how I enjoy being a friend in happy moments, I like being a friend in sad moments too.
I completed my first year of university, though I had to pause my studies for a while. I plan to continue in the future when the right opportunity comes along.
I’ve always been fascinated by European languages and culture, especially Danish and Dutch. My grandmother and aunt’s family live in Denmark, and staying in touch with them has sparked my curiosity about European life. I believe that the best way to truly understand a culture is to live it and learn its language. Aside from that, I simply think Danish and Dutch are such beautiful and unique languages to hear and speak.
When it comes to childcare, I’ve had several meaningful experiences. For about a year, I taught English online, mostly to children aged 4 to 13 from China, and sometimes to adults in advanced classes. I’ve also helped care for my young nephew when he was between one and two years old, and I’ve participated in our school’s outreach programs where we played with and taught children. Because of these experiences, I’ve grown to love being with kids. Aside from helping them do their homework, I also enjoy reading with them and play as well.
I decided to join the Au Pair program because I want to see and experience the world beyond my comfort zone. After stepping away from university, I realized I wanted to make the most of my youth — to explore, learn, and truly live. I see this as an opportunity not just to travel, but as a chance to grow, to learn new languages, and to understand different cultures deeply.
I hope my future host family will become more than just hosts, but also teachers, mentors, and friends. I would be very grateful for anything you could share with me — whether it’s your culture, family traditions, or life lessons. In return, I’m excited to share my own stories, experiences, and energy with your family — especially with the children. I look forward to being part of their childhood, whether as a caring big sister, a fun playmate, or a helpful teacher who supports them as they grow.
