Introduction
Dear Host Family,
My name is Gemma Il-ya, and I’m a 24-year-old from Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. I’m the youngest in my family, and I come from a loving home where both of my parents are public school teachers. My father was also an ex-seminarian, which is why I was raised in a Catholic and values-oriented household.
I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology last May 2025, and I’m proud to share that I passed the Licensure Examination for Psychometricians in the Philippines last October 2, 2025. During my senior high school work immersion, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with children with special needs, particularly those who are deaf and mute. Through that experience, I learned basic American Sign Language (ASL) and developed deep patience, empathy, and understanding for every child’s unique way of communicating and growing.
Even though this would be my first time as an au pair, I already have experience in babysitting and helping with household chores. I enjoy living with others and contributing to a warm, harmonious environment. People often describe me as helpful, adaptable, resilient, and easy to be with. I consider myself an empath, always sensitive to others’ feelings and ready to lend a hand whenever needed.
I am very open to learning new things, exploring other cultures, and gaining life experiences that will help me grow as a person and as a future professional. More than anything, I want to be part of a family where I can share my kindness, enthusiasm, and care — while learning from you and your children in return.
For me, helping others is a beautiful exchange of humanity — sometimes we help, and sometimes we are helped, and that’s what makes life meaningful.
