Introduction

Dear Host Family,

ABOUT ME

My name is Yosephine valensia am 19 years old from Kei Island, Maluku Indonesia. I am writing to express my sincere interest in becoming an au pair with your family in the Netherlands.
*Why I want to be an au pair in the Netherlands*
I have always been fascinated by Dutch culture, your open-minded lifestyle, and the way families value work-life balance. Becoming an au pair is the perfect opportunity for me to experience daily life in the Netherlands, improve my English and learn Dutch, and share Indonesian culture with your family. I believe that cultural exchange is a two-way street, and I am excited to both learn from you and contribute to your home.

*A bit about me and my hobbies*
Singing and playing the ukulele are two things that make me happiest. I love how a simple song can turn a quiet afternoon into something fun and memorable. With kids, I use music to make routines easier — turning cleanup time into a silly song, learning basic English words through melody, or just having a mini concert before bedtime.
I’m still learning, so I’m not perfect, but that’s the point. I want to show kids that it’s okay to try new things even if you’re a beginner. Besides music, I’m curious about everything: trying new recipes, learning local games, picking up a few words of Dutch, and exploring your city with the kids. I think that openness to new experiences is what makes an au pair experience meaningful for both sides.

*My experience with children aged 5-10 years*
For the past [X years/months],

I learned that kids don’t need a perfect adult — they need someone who listens, laughs with them, and shows up consistently. I’m patient, creative, and I treat every day as a chance to turn routines into small adventures. Whether it’s helping with homework, making crafts from recycled materials, or organizing an outdoor scavenger hunt, I aim to make kids feel safe, seen, and encouraged to try new things.

Supported daily routines*: Helping with morning preparation, school lunches, and safe drop-off and pick-up.

Helped with learning and creativity*: Assisting with homework, reading bedtime stories, and organizing educational activities like drawing, crafts, and simple science games.

Ensured a safe and positive environment*: Listening to the children, resolving small conflicts patiently, and making sure they feel happy and secure at home.

Children at this age need both a playmate and a responsible role model. I am patient, creative, and good at turning daily routines into fun and structured activities. I also keep open communication with parents about their child’s progress and mood.

I am responsible, honest, and a fast learner when it comes to adapting to new environments. I enjoy cooking and would love to cook simple Indonesian dishes for your family if you’d like to try them. In my free time, I enjoy reading, walking, learning languages, and spending time outdoors. I can sing too, and I know how to play the ukulele.
I like taking care of small children, and at the same time gaining new experiences before stepping into the stage of becoming a mother.

*What I can offer your family*
I want to be a caring older sibling and helper in your home. I am happy to help with childcare, tidying the children’s rooms, and light housework related to the kids. Most importantly, I want to build a warm, trusting relationship with your children and become a positive part of your family life.

MOTIVATION

I AM A YOUNG GIRL with a dream that’s bigger than my hometown: to grow by stepping outside of what I know and into the world.
I’ve always believed that the fastest way to grow up is to take responsibility for yourself in a place where no one knows your name. That’s why I started traveling alone at 19. My first solo trip taught me more than any classroom ever could — how to navigate when I’m lost, how to ask for help in a language I barely speak, and how to find comfort in being uncomfortable. Those experiences made me curious, adaptable, and excited by the unknown.

Becoming an au pair is the next step in that journey. I don’t see it as just a job. I see it as pioneering a new chapter: living with a family from another culture, learning your way of life, and bringing a piece of mine to share with you. I want to understand how people in the Netherlands think, raise their kids, celebrate small moments, and balance work with life. In return, I want to share Indonesian warmth, food, stories, and the way we value family and community.

know many people think going abroad alone is risky, or that adapting to a new culture will be lonely. For me, that’s exactly the point. I want to be challenged. I want to learn how to cook your favorite meal, how to bike in the rain, and how to join in your traditions even when I feel out of place at first. Because that’s how you build empathy — not by reading about it, but by living it.

If you choose me, you’ll get someone who is reliable, respectful of your home, a
