My name is Gabriela Soares, I'm 18 years old, I'm from Venezuela but I have lived in Colombia since 2010, due to the political situation in my country.
I currently live in Medellin, Colombia. I lived with my mom, grandma, grandpa, and brother until 2 years ago, now I only live with my mom and grandma because my brother is living in Florida now and my grandpa died 2 years ago.
My older brother is a pilot and he lives in Fort Pierce, Florida. My mom and my dad are administrators and my grandma was a teacher in Venezuela, but she currently works as an independent cooker for events alongside my mom, they prepare excellent meals and cakes.
I consider myself a consistent, responsible, open-minded, patient, independent, positive, adventurous, and creative woman. In my free time, I like going for a walk, listening to music, journaling, going to the gym, and spending time with my family and friends. I also like dancing, learning new languages, traveling, and baking desserts. My favorite hobby is going to the gym every day.
Since I heard about the Aupair program I knew that someday I'm going to do it, because when I spend time with kids I feel so happy and enjoy with them because I love the happiness and magic that they find in all things. On the other hand, one of the things that I love the most when I travel is getting to know people's culture, language, food, and new places.
My experience with kids started in 2020 when I joined a youth group at school where I worked with children between 5 and 12 years old doing activities with them. I already graduated from school but I'm still part of this group. I also take care of a 7-year-old boy when the school day ends and I do homework with him, we play in the house, we play sports outside, we do crafts and we love to cook different desserts. Sometimes I take him to his extracurricular activities by car, for example, soccer games or other activities.
This year I started a technical program on early childhood development where I have learned techniques and methodologies to work with children and teach them new things. Also in January, I started taking an English course so I could have basic knowledge to work as an au pair. Another very important thing is that this year I took a first aid course focused on children because I must always be prepared for any situation with them.
My expectations with the Au pair program are, to feel welcomed and part of the family, to enrich my experience with child care, to receive and give fair treatment, to improve my English skills, to learn from your culture as you do from mine, to leave a positive imprint in your lives and finally, to travel throughout most of the United States.
