Dear future host family.
First of all, let me introduce myself. I am Cristian Gomez, I am 26 years old, I am from the city of Bogotá, Colombia. All my life I have lived in that beautiful city with my parents and my brother. I went to a private university where I graduated as a mechatronic engineer.
What can I say about myself? I am a responsible, empathetic, collaborative, honest boy with a great desire to get ahead. In my daily routine I try to plan my day from the beginning, that is, I am organized with my things and I like to accomplish everything I set out to do.
I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends, I love going to the gym, swimming, playing soccer, and I love traveling.
As for my experience with child care, Recently I was an au pair for a family in Iowa. This experience led me to have a better understanding of the challenges kids with special needs face, as well as strategies to help all types of children overcome struggles, and ultimately provide a positive and loving environment. I had two children, an 8-year-old boy with autism and a 16-year-old boy. This experience was rewarding for me, since I realized how much I can contribute to children, such as security, friendship, understanding, teaching and other things that are very useful at a child's age.
This also means I already have a U.S. Driver’s License, Social Security Card and I’m already familiar with the U.S. I’ll be able to get started helping your household right away. I have been taking English classes in Iowa and intend to continue growing my proficiency.
I also did social service in a kindergarten with approximately 10 children, where we played in the park, helped them with homework, taught them activities and values, helped them eat and share with other people. I always liked being with them, because I also learn from them and I think that in the future all this can help me if one day I decide to have children. Apart from this experience, I have almost always taken care of my cousins and my brother.
I have two certificates entitled “Caring for children with epilepsy” and “Basic actions for caring for a person with a health condition.”
As an older brother, I have the experience of being able to guide and advise the best way forward in difficult situations where I have always tried to be very kind and patient, because I know that it is a part of our lives where we most need unconditional support and permanent guidance to grow as a person.
I would also add that I have been driving since I got my license, so I could be a good option if I had to take your children somewhere.
