Glad to meet you!
This is Zoe from Mainland China, and my Chinese name is Shulin. Zoe means "Life" in Greece, while Shulin means "an elegant and smart lady" in Chinese. Though I am not entirely sure if I embody elegance, I can confidently say I am an intelligent lady, or at least I like to believe so haha. Therefore, you are welcome to call me by either name; I cherish them both. (;
I am a big culture and language buff who is open-minded to different cultures, and language is usually the best start to learn more about the culture for me.
For language, I have plenty experiences in language teaching, including teengager tutoring (through all my campus time)and IELTS teaching. The family can have little wworry about the language barrier between us. (:
For culture, I've participated in international volunteer project in a beautiful country--Sri Lanka, and spent 1 month there to teach local children Chinese & English, and arrange cutulral acitivitis like sports and outdoor events with them.
I am also into writing, music, arts, hiphop dance and outdoor acitivities & nature. I can have a lot to share with the family.
I like pets (more a dog person)! A strong belief is that children will develop better in emotional intimacy and be healthier if they grow up with pets and are exposed to nature more.
There are some reasons why I am looking forward to becoming an au pair-
- I genuinely enjoy spending time with children and being part of a loving family, which brings me gives me a great deal of happniess;
- My teaching experiences have shown my patience, care, responsibilty, keen observeation skills, psycholohical knowledge, and more, all of which are essential for being a good au pair;
- Au pair is a unique opportunity to immerse myself in an American family and local culture. I've found that American families have a different approach to education, with a strong and evident focus on expressing live to children. I'm eager to learn from this perspective.
- I am planning a future further studies in education and psychology, and being an au pair provides pracical experience that aligns with my educational and career goals.
- I'm a language enthusiast, and being an au pair is an amazing way for me to continually improve my English.
Above, I think I've shared quite a lot about myself, so I would like to highlight some aspects of an ideal family that resonate with me next.
An ideal family, in my view, is one that radiates a positive attitude towards life, places significance importance on physical well-being, embraces nature (I'm currently pursing my Nature Education Instructor Certification in Finland), values education and cultural aspects. Beyond my responsibilities in childcare, I look forward to contributing my experiences and knowledge to the family. Equally essential is the opportunity to learn from your family -- understanding how you educate your children in your culture and nurturing a healthy and lovely relationship with them. I am also looking forward to engage in various activities with your family to enhance our bond and deepen my understanding of your culture. Furthermore, I believe that having working parents will provide a great platform for professional discussions and communication. Besides, a car to drive would be a great convenience!
In addition to my extensive experience in tutoring and caring for children, I am proficient in English and possess strong intercultural communication skills. Moreover, I possess the key attributes of a qualified au pair: I am supportive, communicative, patient, kind, warm-hearted, positive, fun and highly motivated. Whats more, a great balance between work and life as an au pair is essential to me and hope you understand. (:
