Dear Host Family,
My name is Lahanna, I am 26 years old and I will turn 27 in August, i am from Brazil and I am currently studying Philosophy at a Federal University in Rio Grande do Sul, called the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM).
I have always been passionate about children, and I understand that caring for them requires responsibility, patience, affection, and attention. Becoming an Au Pair has been a long-time dream of mine because it allows me to experience a cultural exchange while doing something I truly love—caring for children. I am excited about the opportunity to learn a new culture and language, while also sharing a part of my own culture with your family.
I am aware that taking care of children can be challenging, especially in difficult situations that require maturity and firmness. However, I feel confident in my ability to handle these moments with responsibility, emotional balance, and care. I believe that children teach us a lot in daily life, and I value the opportunity to grow alongside them, creating meaningful experiences together.
I consider myself a dedicated person who puts love and care into everything I do. I have a sensitive and respectful view of children, understanding that they are individuals who deserve to be heard, respected, and treated with patience and kindness. As someone who enjoys reading and studying psychoanalysis as a hobby, I have developed a deeper understanding of human behavior, empathy, and emotional development. I strongly believe that children who grow up feeling heard, loved, and supported become healthier and more confident adults.
I believe you should consider hosting me because I am honest, organized, and respectful of other people’s space. In Brazil, I currently live in student housing at my university, where I share an apartment with others. This experience has taught me a lot about coexistence, respect, responsibility, and taking care of shared duties. Just as I will trust my host family, I also value mutual trust and respect.
I would also like to be transparent about something important. Since childhood, I have alopecia androgenetica, a condition that prevents my hair from growing, so I keep my head shaved. Unfortunately, I have experienced prejudice in Brazil because of my appearance, especially in professional environments. However, I want to emphasize that this is only a physical detail and does not affect my personality, my character, or my ability to care for children. I believe in being honest from the beginning, even though I understand that prejudice still exists.
