Introduction

Hello, my name is Maria Luisa — you may call me Luisa. I am 20 years old and currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education (Pedagogy), a field in Brazil dedicated specifically to the education and development of young children. My academic journey has strengthened my passion for teaching and has provided me with a solid foundation in child development, learning processes, and classroom practice.

I am originally from Manaus, a city in the state of Amazonas with deep Indigenous heritage, and my culture is an important part of who I am. I was raised by my grandmother, a resilient and loving woman who overcame cancer five years ago. Today, I live with my mother and my younger siblings—I am the oldest of four—and I share a very close bond with my 9-year-old sister. Since childhood, people have often told me that I have a natural ability to connect with children, which guided me toward the path of becoming an educator.

I began working in the field six months after starting university, interning at a daycare where I cared for children between 2 and 3 years old. Later, I joined another school, gaining experience with children of various ages and with diverse needs, including those with ASD, ODD, and ADHD. I also have previous experience working as a babysitter. These opportunities have allowed me to develop strong practical skills, adaptability, and confidence in understanding and supporting each child’s unique needs.

I am a creative, dedicated, and attentive professional. I value the importance of routine in early childhood, understanding how it contributes to a child’s sense of security and well-being. I am also comfortable handling unexpected situations and emotional challenges that may arise throughout the day. My studies and work experience have equipped me with a thoughtful and informed approach to supporting children’s development.

Beyond my professional life, I consider myself observant, responsible, and easy to get along with. I take some time to adapt to new environments, but I’m always proactive and eager to contribute positively. I enjoy reading, watching educational and entertainment videos on YouTube, cartoons, and playing video games. I’m a calm person, very family-oriented, and appreciate being in nurturing spaces.

Although I do not currently hold a driver’s license, I am in the process of obtaining my passport. My English level is intermediate, and I am able to hold everyday conversations with fluency, having learned the language independently during childhood.

As one of my university professors says, “the universal language of children is play,” and I strive to bring that philosophy into every interaction I have with them.

I hope this exchange helps me grow personally and professionally. I want to learn new approaches to childcare, experience a different culture, and strengthen my independence and adaptability. I also hope to build meaningful connections, share my own culture, and bring these experiences back into my future work as an early childhood educator.
