Dear future host family,
My name is Emily Haitzer, I am 20 years old, and I was born and raised in Vienna, Austria. At the moment,
I am finishing high school, and I will graduate this June. I live with my mom in a house near the city center.
She is one of the most important people in my life, and we share a very close bond. We also have a dog
named Meggy, who is a wonderful companion. My dad lives about an hour away in another state called
Styria, and I have a great relationship with him as well. Although I don’t have any siblings, I am very close
to my grandparents, who live both in Vienna and in Styria.
In my free time, I love staying active and involved in different activities. I volunteer at ROTEX, an
organization for former exchange students that supports cultural exchange in Austria and abroad. I’ve
been on the board of ROTEX for over a year now, and recently, I was elected to vice-president. Besides
that, I spend a lot of time working with children, either babysitting or helping out at various camps. For
many years, I was part of a church youth group where I organized weekly play hours for kids and
participated in three camps every year. I am a really sporty as well and would love to learn south
American dances, as I did classic dance in Vienna for a while. I really enjoy reading a good book or just
going on afternoon walk as well.
One of my biggest passions is traveling and discovering new cultures. During my exchange year in the
United States (in Colorado), I attended high school there and had the most incredible experience. It
opened my eyes to the beauty of immersing yourself in a different culture and showed me how much you
can learn from others. Since than Rotary and Rotex are a big and important part of my life. During that
year I decided that I want to travel and see more of the world as soon as I am done with highschool.
I decided to become an Au Pair because I’m so ready to start a new adventure in another part of the
world. My goal is to learn Spanish and experience a culture that is completely new to me. I knew from the
start that I wanted to do something involving children because that’s work, that makes me the happiest.
Everyone who knows me will tell you how passionate I am about working with kids—it fulfills me every
time. I think children have so much to teach us, and we have so much to share with them, and that’s such
a beautiful, rewarding connection. I am eager to be a person they look up to and always try my best to
form a special bond.
As I mentioned before, I have a lot of experience with children of different ages. I started working with
them in a church youth group (ages from elementary school till middle school), where I led a group each
week and took part in three camps a year. I also have a babysitting license and have been babysitting
since I was 15. For over a year now, I’ve been caring for the same family’s children on a regular basis, and
it’s always such a fun experience. Another highlight was working as a team leader at an English summer
camp in Malta last year, where I was responsible for organizing and leading activities for kids aged 10 to
17. We were there for the kids 24/7 and it was a really special experience.
In conclusion, I truly believe I would be a great Au Pair because of my genuine love for working with
children, my adaptability to new cultures, and my excitement to learn and share experiences. I’m also
very used to being away from home for extended periods, thanks to my year abroad in the USA, which
has made me even more open to embracing new places and cultures. I amcaring, reliable, and always
willing to help, which I think are the most important qualities for an Au Pair. I would be so happy to bring
positivity, creativity, and a warm heart into your family’s life and to support you in any way I can.
