Introduction
My name is Luyanda, I am 20 years old and from South Africa. I am currently studying towards a BCom Law degree, and I am looking for an au pair opportunity in Germany from January 2027. I would love to become part of a welcoming family, experience everyday life in Germany, learn the German language and culture, and create a genuine connection with the children and parents I live with.
I have always had a natural love for children, and caring for and working with younger people has been part of my life for many years. I am an older sibling and an aunt, so I have grown up being around younger children and helping to care for them. However, my experience goes beyond my family.
I currently tutor children in English, Mathematics and Afrikaans. Through tutoring, I have learned how important patience, encouragement and adapting to each child’s personality and learning style are. I really enjoy seeing a child understand something that they initially found difficult and knowing that I played a small part in helping them get there.
I also serve in the children’s ministry at my church every Sunday. I have worked with children from approximately 1 to 15 years old across different services and age groups, usually from around 7:00 in the morning until 11:30. This has given me experience interacting with children with very different personalities, energy levels and needs. I enjoy creating a fun environment for children while also making sure they feel safe, respected and listened to.
My interest in working with children actually started quite young. When I was in Grades 7–9, I ran a small after-school homework programme from home for younger children in my community. They would come to my home after school, where I helped them with their homework and schoolwork for a few hours. Looking back, I think that experience was one of the first times I realised how much I genuinely enjoy helping children learn and develop.
I would describe myself as caring, patient, responsible, family-oriented, respectful and dependable. I am also quite active and enjoy dancing, spending time outdoors, travelling, exploring new places and meeting new people. I enjoy creative activities and would be happy to play games, read stories, help with homework, do arts and crafts, go to playgrounds, take walks or simply spend quality time with children depending on their age and interests.
I am comfortable working with different age groups, and I understand that younger children especially need patience, consistency and attention. I would never expect every child to behave the same way, and I believe that building trust with a child is one of the most important parts of childcare.
One of the reasons Germany particularly interests me is because I would like to immerse myself in the language and culture rather than simply visit as a tourist. I have already started learning German and I am committed to improving it before and during my stay. I am excited about the idea of attending a German language course, becoming more independent and experiencing everyday life in a German family.
I am also currently studying, and my longer-term goal is to continue developing academically and professionally after my au pair experience. I therefore see an au pair year as much more than travelling abroad. I see it as an opportunity to grow as a person, become more independent, learn a new language, experience another culture and gain valuable childcare and life experience.
I am hoping to find a family where communication is open and respectful, where I can feel comfortable asking questions and where we can genuinely become part of each other’s lives. At the same time, I understand the importance of respecting the family’s routines, privacy and parenting style. I am happy to help with the children’s routines and reasonable light household tasks connected to them.
I would also love to hear about your family, your children, your daily routine and what you hope to gain from having an au pair. If we feel that we could be a good match, I would be very happy to have a video call and get to know you and your children better.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me. I hope to hear from you and hopefully become a wonderful addition to your family! ??????
