Introduction
If I would be chosen to be part of your family, as I am one other member of the family and as you treat me, I’m going to be a kind and loving family member, as I love and care for my family here. A little background about me. I am Kurt, BTW. I live in the Philippines. When I was 4 years old, my father died, and since then, my mother left me and entrusted me to my relatives, especially to my grandma on my father’s side.
Luckily, my grandma is a very loving grandma. She took care of me since I was a baby, like literally, even when my father was still alive. My mother showed that she was irresponsible. Imagine, you give birth to a son and you’re just going to let others take care of me while she is just having fun with her friends. And that’s it. I just accepted my fate and embraced it.
And I was also brought to my mother’s side because my mom wanted to, even though she did not take care of me at first. And just like that, after she brought me to their province, likewise, she left me too and entrusted me to my relatives.
Since then, when I was in that province in Tacloban, that’s where I started to learn childcare. My mother had sisters, and I was living with them, and they had children. Of course, as a nephew and a cousin to my aunt’s child, I was also one of those taking care of my cousin. Since my aunt had work, I was one of the people trusted to take care of my cousin. She’s a sweet, loving baby girl named “Langga.”
I was able to take care of her because my aunt had no choice. She taught me a lot when it comes to taking care of a baby and a kid too. She taught me how to give my cousin a bath, how to feed her, how to dress her, and how to take care of her. And since then, I was able to learn childcare. And now, Langga is 6 years old and a Grade 1 student.
Not only Langga was I able to take care of. I also have my other cousins, especially the baby ones, the infants, and a preschooler too. And just like that, I learned a lot, haha. Thanks to my mother for bringing me there. And now that I returned here to my grandma for the opportunity waiting here, I was able to use the knowledge that I’ve learned in Tacloban.
I took care of the child of a veteran Filipino artist, “Smokey Manaloto.” I was able to take care of his first baby, named “Kiko,” during a summer vacation. I needed to earn money for the upcoming school year because I needed some school supplies and other necessities. So I needed to work for it, and at that time, Kiko’s parent was hiring an alternative nanny for Kiko because his nanny was going to take a one-month vacation. So I was hired.
Kiko is not just a kid. He is so smart and sweet and so cute. Kiko is a Person With a Disability, meaning he belongs to ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). But despite that, I never saw Kiko as someone with this disorder. I treated him like normal because he had a mild form of it. I never thought that Kiko had autism. Instead, I loved Kiko, took care of him, and treated him as my brother. Actually, I miss Kiko because I was really attached to him, even though I only took care of him for a month.
And Kiko has a brother and sister from his mother’s past relationship before Kiko’s dad. These two kids really love me. I don’t know why, but I showed them that I really like kids and played with them when I had free time, hahaha. You know what, when I returned home, those kids called me through chat, and their yaya told me that when the boy cried, he was saying, “I want Kuya Kurt, I want Kuya Kurt to take care of me,” while crying.
I can see how children get attached to me, and I can see how I love them and show my compassion to them. That’s what I observe every time I meet a kid, and I am able to take care of them or even just play and talk to them. I can see that they are comfortable with me, they like me, and they feel safe with me.
Aside from taking care of children, I also have a lot of knowledge and experience when it comes to the house, especially household chores. Of course, I am willing to learn your traditions and culture and how you live there in your country. I am excited and happy to be part of your family.
I am hoping and happy to see you soon.
