| I selected Meagan as our aupair after exchanging several e-mails and after talking with her over the phone, almost daily, for one month. She seemed the ideal candidate, but she turned out to be a great disappointment. She said that she could speak basic Italian, drive, cook, play with children - but it all was not true (or at least she didn't do it during the 2 weeks she stayed with us). When she arrived in Milan from St. Louis, the first week I let her settle in, while I gave her a memo explaining my family's daily routine, showed how things were done, took her out to lunches and around the city to get her sim card, her pubblic transportation pass, etc. The second week, she should have been active with my children. Instead, when I came home on Monday afternoon, I found her confortably laying on the couch reading a book, while my 2 kids were in front of tv. I told her that this was not ok, that she was supposed to play with them or at least interact with them. Later in the evening, she said she wanted to tell me something and she said: 'Well, then I don't think this is going to work! I'm here to be happy and have fun!'. And by the end of the second week she went back to the States, without even bothering to say it to my puzzled children, without even trying. |
