She agreed to return to her initial standard of performance as well as work extra hours in exchange for us buying her an extensive holiday in Europe that departed soon after. Instead we were told on the last evening of the holiday that she was leaving, and hence had no intention of meeting her end of the bargain. To ake the situation worse, throughout the holiday Emma had us pay for every expense in addition to the initial outlay. Her family in Australia kindly repaid part of the cost of the holiday but we were left out of pocket as well as our generosity and the kindess of our family and friends being totally abused. Emma exhibited little work ethic or maturity for her resposnsibilities as agreed out the outset of her placement in a detailed written job description. It was a very upsetting and disappointing as we were very trusting of au pairs and had absolutely lovely girls in the UK and Australia in the past who are still warm friends of our family. Additionally, Emma came to us having had a falling out with her previous au pair family in the Canary Islands, and also another family during her period as an exchange student in France. Perhaps we should have seen the signs!
