| Warning of another variant of the Cameroonian Au Pair Scam. The Au pair goes by the name Sydney Bacchus:
Attached is the leter she used to present herself:
Dear family I am glad that you have shown interest in my being your au pair. It gives me singular pleasure to communicate for the first time with the people I may be living with for a long time. Before I go any further, I’d like to make a brief presentation of who I am, the things I do and why I think it would be particularly beneficial to you if I you chose me as your au pair. My name is Sydney Bacchus and I’m a British citizen. I look forward to celebrating my 24th birthday come the 17th of November. I am the second of two kids born to Williams (of late) and April Bacchus. I do not have any physical or mental handicaps. Neither do I have any allergies nor any particular preferences as far as my nutrition is concerned. I’m a non practicing Christian who has tolerance towards other religions. I however ask to be let alone in matters of faith. I enjoy outdoor activities like swimming, cycling, hiking, pingpong, etc. I also enjoy board games like scrabble, monopoly, game of life, chess, draught, etc. I pass most of my private time doing creative writing, singing or reading epic novels. I guess so far I’ve said enough about myself. I have spent the better part of the last four years taking care of kids in different capacities. Earlier on I babysat on and off for neighbours for almost a year. Then I’ve been an au pair an au pair in France, Canada and currently in Cameroon. Currently my contract with my host family in Cameroon has come to an end and in the light of my impending resumption of my studies in September 2009 or January2010, I think is expedient for me to return to Europe in general and the UK in particular. As a young woman, au pairing presents a unique opportunity to showcase my love for kids, gives me the opportunity to travel and meet new cultures and all the while earn a little tuition money. I must say at this point that my years of experience have left me with a good grasp of the place an au pair occupies in the life of a child and in the midst of a family. To be efficient, an au pair must be orderly, disciplined, and responsible and yet stimulate the curiosity of the kid(s). A good au pair most inspire trust in the kids and confidence in the parents. She must not seek to replace the parents but to continue their plans for their kids when it is demanded of her or expected of her to do so. A good au pair must try to fit in the family routine without being invasive. I believe that coupled with the foregoing which I’ve mastered; I present an excellent candidate for au pairing because of the various competences I’ve acquired in survival, leadership and crisis management camp. I am a certified first aid provider as well as an capable swimmer. More so I command a good knowledge of the French language which I am willing to share. You shall find me willing to participate in all work which the whole family is involved in. And this is apart from the 45hr week I’m willing to put in. I’m willing to do light work like kid’s laundry and mine, dust and do the dishes. I’ll wake the kids and get them ready for school if you don’t mind. I’ll prepare small meals and drive them to and from school (willing to do carpools). I will be completely responsible for the tidiness of my quarters. Will entertain the kids both indoors and out. You shall find me extremely flexible and comprehensive as far as extra hours and unforeseen circumstances are concerned even on my days off! Well there’s much I’d like to say to paint a true and complete picture of who I am and what I offer, but for fear of repetition and so as not to be too long I beg to end here while imploring you to ask me any questions you deem necessary for your enlightenment. Yours; Sydney
She sounded too good to be true but we arranged an interview with her. During the course of the interview she deleted her profile from this site as well as inactivated the e-mail address. We suspect that she realized we were experienced in dealing with au pairs. As with other Cameroonian scams, she is using a Yahoo email address. |
