J-1 Visa Cost and Process for US Families
US Families choosing to go through an Au Pair Agency to obtain a legal J-1 visa for their Au Pair, such as through one of GreatAupair's partners, will go through the following process and be required to pay the fees stated below. Non-US families also have several options. Please see the requirements under Au Pair Visa Requirements by Country.

Through our Full-Service AuPair Agency Program, agency fees are available. Be sure you understand all the costs associated with hiring an aupair, whether you go through an agency or whether you hire an aupair directly. See Au Pair & Nanny Salary.

To begin hiring your aupair through an agency, the process is as follows:

  1. We verify that you and your chosen aupair are eligible for the Aupair J-1 program. Not all agencies service all states and countries. And not all aupairs meet the requirements.

  2. Once eligibility is determined, GreatAupair makes the introduction on your behalf and has a representative assigned to you that understands how to work with pre-matched families and aupairs from GreatAupair. If you call the agencies directly, the person on the phone will not likely now about our special program.

  3. Interviews and background checks are done to comply with government regulations for the issuance of the J-1 Visa.

  4. The aupair arrives in 4-6 weeks for a 3-day training program in NY, then she is flown at your cost to the airport nearest you.

There is also a $500 Educational Fee that the family must pay toward their aupair's education while in the US.

The Program Fee paid by the family includes background checks on the aupair, medical record checks, reference checking, round-trip airfare from the aupair's home country to New York and Back. The aupair also goes through a 3-day aupair training program while in New York. Half of the aupair's health insurance is covered by the Program Fee, the other half is paid by the aupair.

Family Testimonial...
Dear GreatAupair, because of you we had a very good time with our Aupair. And we don't really want to let her go... But we are sure that we will find another perfect match for our family over your great website. Just like a lot of other searching families we tried a lot of different sites, but none of them were even close to yours! This one is really perfect!! We found a friend for a lifetime and we will find some more!!! Thank you very very much!!!
