Job Description
Location: Old Town, Fort Collins, CO
Housing: Rent-free in exchange for light caregiving support and overnight presence
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
I'm James, a nutrition professor at Colorado State University who lives independently in a modern apartment in Old Town Fort Collins. I'm not a senior—I'm in my 40s and live with a spinal cord injury. I'm looking for a responsible, kind person to share my home as part of a cultural exchange arrangement.
In exchange for rent-free housing, shared meals, and a weekly allowance for personal expenses, you'd provide light support and be present overnight most nights.
WHAT THIS INVOLVES
Light caregiving support:
Being a calm, reliable presence overnight in case something comes up
Occasionally helping with simple tasks like adjusting a blanket, repositioning, or responding to a muscle spasm
Helping manage errands, groceries, and mail
Keeping shared spaces tidy
I have a care team that handles my personal care during the day. You wouldn't be responsible for bathing, dressing, or medical tasks. Most nights are quiet and uninterrupted.
Overnight presence:
Be present overnight (roughly 10 PM to 6 AM) at least five nights per week
Most nights you'd just sleep
WHAT'S PROVIDED
Rent-free private bedroom in a modern apartment
Shared meals and groceries
Weekly allowance for personal expenses
Access to transportation as needed
Support for educational or cultural opportunities in the area
ABOUT ME AS A HOUSEMATE
I'm quiet, respectful, and genuinely enjoy getting to know people from different backgrounds. I love good food, music, books, and meaningful conversation. I work full-time at CSU and spend most of my days on campus or working from home. I'm looking for someone I'd enjoy living with—not just someone filling a role.
ABOUT THE SPACE
Modern 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment in a secure building
Prime Old Town location, steps from Washington Park and Colorado State University
Your own bedroom and shared bathroom
Fully furnished common areas with large kitchen
Private balcony with mountain views
Secure building with elevator, bike storage, and underground parking
WHO THIS MIGHT BE A GOOD FIT FOR
Someone visiting the U.S. who wants an authentic cultural exchange experience
A responsible, easy-going person comfortable sharing a home
Someone comfortable around disability
Someone interested in health, wellness, or learning about disability and independence
Someone curious about American university life
This is not a good fit for someone just looking for free housing. I'll meet with applicants by video before making any decisions.
HOW TO APPLY
Tell me a bit about yourself—where you're from, what brings you to the U.S., and why this opportunity appeals to you. I'm happy to answer questions and see if we'd be a good fit.
