Dear Future Host Family,

Currently, I am finishing up my master's degree in Biotechnology in Sweden. I moved here after finishing high school in California in 2017, where I lived since a young age. As an American and Swedish citizen, I am fluent in both languages and also speak German, some Spanish and Portuguese, which I hope to improve.

Aside from enjoying my studies, I have many passions including academic, creative, and athletic activities. I love being outside and playing sports, my favorites are climbing and cycling. I have raced both mountain and road bikes and gladly choose two wheels over four. Hiking, running, climbing, and skiing are also a big part of my active life which I would be very happy to share with my host family!

During my University studies for the past 5 years, I have spent a large part of my free time tutoring. With ages ranging from 12 to 18, I have taught about 10 young students. Mainly, I teach Math, Science, and English, and act as a role model for the kids, telling them about my experience in school and my current life as a University student. I love to share my knowledge and help other students progress in school and outside. My favorite part about this job is seeing how their attitudes toward studying change (mostly regarding Math). The newfound excitement, which stems from new understanding, almost always leads to better grades.

Previously, I worked at several camps for children during summers. Teaching kids how to mountain bike in the California heat was a fun and rewarding challenge! Also, in San Francisco I taught at the local Swedish School, helping kids of all ages. Lastly, I also have a younger brother (5 years younger than myself), who I often help with school, sports, and anything he asks about!

I have always liked being with kids, especially when I have the opportunity to teach them something, but also because one can learn a lot from them. The openness one finds in kids, in particular when it comes to language, means a great opportunity to both teach and learn languages together.

My academic interests have led to several research internships in Stockholm. I have worked at KTH, Karolinska University Hospital, SciLifeLabs, and Uppsala University. Work involved both practical and theoretical research, writing reports, and communicating results.
