Introduction
My name is Nishla Thamasha, and I am very excited about the possibility of joining your family as an Au
Pair in Germany. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share a little about my
background, my experiences, and why I believe I can be a supportive and caring Au Pair for your family.
I grew up in Sri Lanka with my sister and a large group of cousins from both my mother’s and father’s
side. My childhood was full of joy, spending weekends playing with cousins, going on trips, and attending
church every Sunday. Growing up, I was always surrounded by family, and I cherished playing with my
cousins after school. I was the youngest for a long time until younger cousins were born, and I naturally
grew closer to them, taking on a “big sister” role. My neighborhood friends were also an important part of
my childhood, and I often guided them in games and group activities. I also grew up with several pets,
including dogs and cats. Today, we still have one cat and one dog at home.
I have studied German at the A1 level and continue practicing daily with the Duolingo app. My goal is to
keep improving so that I can communicate fluently during my stay in Germany and better support my host
family.
After finishing school, I devoted several months to full-time badminton training with a local club before
enrolling in a professional barista course. After completing it, I moved to the Maldives, where I worked as
a Barista and later as a Senior Barista in a café that also operated an art studio. During this period, I also
started and completed my Foundation in Marketing studies. Working in the café was an enriching
experience where I learned responsibility, organization, and teamwork. What I loved most was engaging
with customers, especially children, who came to the café. I always tried to make them feel welcome,
cheerful, and comfortable. I also helped in the art studio during children’s clay-making sessions, which
gave me further experience interacting with kids in a fun and creative environment.
Even before working, I gained childcare experience through looking after my younger relatives and
neighborhood children. Most of the kids I looked after were above 4 years old. My role was often to keep
them safe, play with them, and support them when their parents were away. In school, I was the House
Captain and an active member of the Badminton Team, which gave me the chance to mentor and support
younger students and players. I learned to understand their strengths and weaknesses and guide them
patiently, much like I would with younger siblings.
At home, I have always helped my mother with housework, so I am familiar with light cleaning and basic
cooking. I especially enjoy making coffee and sharing it with my family and friends.
My hobbies include playing badminton, listening to music, and experimenting with new coffee recipes. I
would describe myself as an ambivert, mostly extroverted, but with an introverted side that enjoys quiet
moments. I love being active, meeting friends for coffee, playing badminton, exploring new food, going
to the beach, and watching sunsets. Sometimes, I also enjoy staying at home, listening to music, and
creating playlists.
My plan is to complete the full 12 months as an Au Pair, and afterwards I hope to take the next step in my
journey by starting an Ausbildung in Germany to further build my career.
What I am most looking forward to in Germany is learning the language more fluently, experiencing the
culture first-hand, and building a strong connection with my host family. I wish to be a supportive, caring,
and reliable Au Pair, and I hope we can build a warm and healthy relationship during my stay.
Thank you very much for considering my application. I am looking forward to meeting you and hopefully
becoming a part of your family.
Warm regards,
Nishla Thamasha
