Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.
My name is Evelyn and I'm 19 years old. I am currently living with my parents and brother in Toronto and just graduated high school in June. Since then, I worked at a summer camp in Quebec, where my responsibilities included general maintenance and upkeep of numerous rental units and camp facilities, along with customer service and support. Being a residential summer camp for children as well, I was also involved with supervising and participating in activities involving the campers . In my spare time, I like to read (mostly biographies and classics), cross stitch, cook, and write. I speak Spanish fluently as my mother is from Mexico, and I spent quite a bit of time in her hometown, Puebla, during my childhood. I also have some ability in French.
I want to be an au pair because I really like children and spending time with them. I was a babysitter for 5 years and volunteered a number of times at a local daycare providing workshops on various arts and crafts. Whether it be playing with children or picking them up from school or activities, I’m aware of the responsibilities, patience, and understanding needed to support them. In my experience so far, I have been able to make positive connections with children and enjoy learning from them through conversations and daily activities.
Another reason I want to be an au pair is to be able to experience the day to day life of another culture that's different from my own. I was born into a bicultural household and living in Toronto has taught me how positive it can be to experience and learn from other cultures. I also appreciate the benefit of learning new languages, as it’s the best way to learn about other people. For example my family in Mexico only speaks Spanish and if I didn’t speak Spanish I wouldn't be able to communicate with them. I enjoy traveling and seeing new places but I know I'll get more out of the experience by being fully immersed by working and living there. I am confident that I would be a conscientious, enthusiastic and compassionate au pair for your family given the opportunity.
