Hi! My name is Saoirse, I originally grew up in Queens, NY but moved to Ireland as a child, I have since moved back to New York.

Although I don't have many years of experience in child care, during and after college, for 2 years I was a babysitter for 2 girls under the age of 10. I picked them up and dropped them off to and from school. I tutored them and helped them complete their homework. I made their dinners once they were home from school. I took them to playgrounds for 2 hours max to make sure they interacted with other children and had fresh air and exercise. I would also bring them along on running errands, for instance to the post office, the grocery store, the bank etc and would tell them what I was doing and why, answering questions that children tend to ask. I also made sure that whenever we went out to a cafe, coffee shop, McDonalds or whatever store with small purchases, that they would pay and learn the concept of money and how much items cost and what their change should be. I would also make sure they knew the importance of manners (please and thank you) while we were out and interacting with other people, eg. at the grocery store or among friends etc.

As mentioned earlier, I do not have a lot of experience under my belt but I do know I work well with kids and that they respond to me. I like to teach them of the simple pleasures and importance's of life while incorporating fun and playfulness! Growing up as a child in New York City, my mother was also a nanny. My mom took care of children all of her adult life, as a live in nanny for one of New York's most famous actresses at her home in Connecticut, children with special needs and even taking care of a child fulltime when I was a toddler (who was my best friend growing up). As a nanny living in NY my mother belonged to a network of other nannies that were a crucial part of my upbringing. One of these nannies was Brenda from England, who was like a grandmother to me. As a child Brenda taught me games like, pass the parcel and old nursery rhymes I still remember today.
These memories, experiences and people that had an influence on me, made me want to share them with the children I have previously taken care of who still remain in my life (their mother and I are good friends), and the children that my friends have gone on to have.

To conclude, everyday can be an adventure taking excerpts from Disney Movies such as Mary Poppins, Eloise at The Plaza and Peter Pan, all have a connection: nannies/nanas/babysitters. In my book, as long as a child is happy, laughing, learning and at the playground then that's what matters most.
