We’re a Dutch/German family with a 5-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son who love living in Luzern, Switzerland. Our situation is a bit special in that you will live in your own place (likely a shared space in Luzern).

Luzern is a medium-sized city, which has everything you'd want: shops, cinemas, language schools, parks and of course the mountains and the amazing lake!

We’re a very social, active, happy bunch and are looking for someone to help us look after our children and help out in the house a bit.

We live right by the lake of Luzern, which is just beautiful - you'll love it immediately! It's like a movie set really :)

We will rent a separate room for you in the area so you have a place where you can retreat at night and on days off.

Our family:
It's four of us: 5-year-old Asta, 4-year-old Bjorn and the dad (Martin) and mom (Els). We are all very active, love to exercise, hike the Swiss mountains around us, swim in the lake, and explore the city.

We both work as parents, and work from home 3-4 days a week, depending on the particular week.

Our background is international, we have lived in different countries and we as parents speak English amongst ourselves but we also speak German and Dutch. The kids speak fluent Swiss German, German, Dutch and are starting to learn English from our current au pair.

The first month you will stay with us in our apartment in your own bedroom so you can get settled at your own pace if you'd like to. Then we will rent a room for you elsewhere in Luzern (it's a student city with many options close by). Our house has a room for you, but it's right by the living room where you hear everything (including the kids waking up very early) so we're more comfortable with you having a space for yourself with more privacy so you can always get good sleep and sleep in in the morning, but of course, you'd always be welcome in our house, and join us for any meals, games or just hanging out (otherwise we cover all costs of food, etc of course!). This set-up has worked very well in the past year with our current au pair.

Your tasks will be to look after the kids 2 full days a week (Asta will be at kindergarten in the morning and starting in August Bjorn will also start kindergarten), and then the remaining ~12 hours will be partially on some housework when the kids are in daycare (e.g., doing laundry) and partially covering other hours on other days (e.g., picking the kids up from daycare at 5pm, putting them to bed at 7pm and staying until 8pm when one of us gets home).

These are just some examples, but gives you a bit of an idea.

The kids will continue to go to daycare 1 full day a week, and we will always aim for you to be off each Sunday and Monday, so you have two subsequent days off. Starting in August both kids will have kindergarten each day until 11:45am.

Pocket money is 700 Swiss Francs per month (is about 700 EUR per month), as set by the Luzern kanton we live in.

On the weekend we usually take the kids to playgrounds in the area, or we visit friends (usually with kids :)), go to the lake, go skiing, closeby swimming pools or go on a walk and sit down in a cafe in the city
