My aunt was disabled in a house fire almost 30 years ago. The fire nearly claimed the life of her small family. Her infant daughter and husband at the time survived and fully recovered, but she received the worse of the smoke inhalation and has not yet regained the ability to walk, talk or care for herself. My sister has dedicated her life to taking care of both my aunt and grandmother who was also confined to a bed in the same home. My grandmother passed away a number of years ago, and my sister works with a small contingent of caregivers to provide the care needed for my aunt, but often times, the other caregivers are not punctual, do not provide appropriate care like changing her adult diaper and cleaning her trachea tube, bathing, and randomly change work hours and/or days without notice. This causes my sister to have to do the work they are being compensated for without being paid herself, all while also taking care of my nephew (her son) who also has disabilities. She will often work weeks at a time without being able to take a break for herself and properly care for her own needs. This is why I am reaching out. I need someone who would be able to step in and assist where my sister can rest and care for herself. The candidate wouldn't be expected to work round the clock. The main concern would be providing consistent and quality care as well as to have availability to step in and cover on the days one of the other nurses calls out or needs to be relieved of duty for not providing proper care.
