For your education, you can take classes at the local community college (Bucks County Community College) with many other au pairs, and you can also take classes at the world-renowned ivy league Princeton University. Imagine having Princeton University on your resume!
We are also surrounded by outdoor recreational opportunities. There is a 60-mile (100-km) trail for bicycling or running nearby that follows the Delaware River canal. There are lakes for swimming and sailing with trails that encircle them. There are small mountain parks with hiking trails to the summit only 10 minutes away. We also take weekend ski trips that are 1 to 2 hours away from our house. We also have 10 equestrian centers within minutes from our house.
In one hour you can drive to the Atlantic Ocean beaches for summertime fun or to the Pocono Mountains for winter skiing or summer hikes in one of the many parks. Other possible weekend destinations (that don't require an airplane) include Washington, DC, and Boston, MA. We also have two international airports that are easily accessible (Newark, NJ, and Philadelphia, PA) for travelling further, and a small regional airport (Trenton, NJ) with budget flights to Florida, making a cheap weekend trip to Florida possible.
If you like fitness and activity, we have that covered too. During the year, you will have access to the YMCA (fitness club) where you can participate in Zumba or 100s of other classes for FREE. Then during the summer months, we belong to an outdoor swimming pool complex (Fanny Chapman Pool in Doylestown, PA) that you will also get a free membership as well.
Each summer we take a family trip for 3 weeks to Seattle, WA, to stay with my family. We sometimes spend a weekend travelling to Penn State University to watch an exciting college (American) football game. In the past year, we have also taken week-long trips to Boston and Las Vegas. You are invited to join us on all of these trips.
Now the most important part! Our boys are ages 8 months, 5 years, and 6 years (as of January 2021). They are well behaved and respectful and do household chores. Our boys speak French and English fluently. Positive reinforcement and positive parenting style is very important for us, and we hope you will continue our methods, because the boys are extremely happy and well behaved. They are constantly singing and dancing. They will be a joy to you and give you endless love and hugs and kisses.
As for us, we both have professional jobs that keep us busy, but we make it a priority to spend time with the children. We would love to make you a part of our family and would welcome you spending some of your free time with us – but we also understand you will want to have your own social life. We take pride in making our own dinner most nights and eating healthy. We like to take a walk after dinner many nights. We encourage each other and we accept feedback to make ourselves into better individuals. We do not have any pets. We are a non-smoking household and would prefer an au pair that does not smoke.
As a family, we value fitness as our recreation and these are the outdoor activities that we like to do and welcome you to join us:
Winter – skiing at local resorts or taking a ski trip (we hope you either like or would be willing to ski)
Spring / Summer / Fall – we like taking hikes in the local mountains or training either running or cycling and do destination hikes, runs and or cycling trips. In the past we have done a 50 km bicycle ride as a family over covered bridges in Lancaster County where there is a large Amish community.
Beyond all that, we really do hope you like our family and find us to be a good fit for your goals and motivations during your time away from home. We need your help and we look forward to integrating you in our family, but we also want to help you enjoy your time in the USA.
