Dear family,
Firstly, let me introduce myself. Hi, I’m Jenny! I’m a 23-year-old university student from Northern Ireland, and I’m currently in my last year at university studying nursing. I am aiming to become a fully qualified nurse on completion of my degree in December 2023.
I have gained a lot of experience within childcare throughout the years and would be honoured to have the opportunity to be an au pair with your family. At first, I may appear to be quite a shy person, but once you get to know me, I’m very honest and easy-going.
What I like to do for fun, is swimming in the local pool, and on a sunny day in the sea. I love cooking and baking, and I make pretty good banana bread and chocolate chip cookies. I’m also musical and a grade 7 pianist and can read music. I love walking and hiking in my local mountains and exploring new sites. I thoroughly enjoy storytelling, reading stories, meeting new people, and trying new things, and I will be eager to immerse myself in what your children love to do in their spare time and help them with their homework.
I’ve had a variety of experiences with children from a variety of ages and different backgrounds. From the age of 15, I was able to obtain a part-time job in a local children's entertainment facility and indoor playground, supervising them during playtime and prioritising their safety. When I was 17, I volunteered to work as an assistant camp leader at YMCA Greenhill. During this role, I assisted the camp counsellors in organising and leading activities such as rock climbing, bouldering and mud run. In 2018, I was selected as part of my last year in high school to work as a volunteer in New Delhi, India, as part of Habitat for Humanity, helping a family in need of a new home. As part of this, I was able to work alongside the local community and the children in India, bringing them joy and laughter and playing with them.
In 2020, I obtained a post as a camp counsellor at New York YMCA camp; due to covid I was unable to attend, but I took this as an opportunity to work throughout covid in a local care home and continue to babysit my neighbour who were ages 7 and 11, during this role I was responsible taking them to school and cleaning the house, helping them with their homework and making them dinner and during days off from school taking them on exciting outings and walks to the beach and park.
I’ve lived in Northern Ireland my whole life, and it will be a fabulous experience to teach you and your children the culture from my home to yours. It’s been my dream to live and work in a different country, and by becoming your au pair, I will be fulfilling this dream and enriching my knowledge in your culture!
