Way back 2016, I completed my degree in Bachelor of Elementary Education major in Special Education at Carlos Hilado Memorial State College – Talisay City, Negros Occidental Philippines and March 2018 I successfully passed the licensure exam for Teacher.
After graduation, I worked as a Sped Teacher at Happy Beginners School of Learning from June 2016 until April 2018. During that time, I fondly experienced the fulfillment and joy of teaching for children with special needs and I surpassed the challenges that came my way. I coordinated with my seniors in developing lesson plans, IEP’s that would not only help students to learn, but capture their engagement as well. I handled children with ASD from ages 4 to transition class whereas our focus is to honed them with necessary skills that they can live a smooth and normal life inside and outside of the school, home, most especially in some places of the community. I worked for almost two years, enough time to understand the dealings of a classroom set up.
Currently, I’m working as a stay-in Shadow Teacher here in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain handling an 11 year’s old (non-verbal boy) child with autism from July 2018 up to now. I am the one preparing and making my own program/therapy using IEP, visual schedule, PECS, ABA, implementing OT/Speech and follow up sessions for his lessons from school. I am helping the family in maintaining normal daily routines, lessening the difficulty of having a child with autism at the same time it easier for them to deal with stressful events, aside from that, I’m helping the child to develop his awareness, socialization, sense of belongingness and togetherness. This job experience has taught me how to be compassionate, flexible and be resourceful on my teaching strategies to better suit the kind of student I have.
