Dear Host Family,

My name is Mpilwenhle. I am 21 years old and from South Africa. I completed my matric at Africa House College in 2024, where I studied Business Studies, Tourism, Mathematics, isiZulu, History, Geography, Life Orientation, and English. I currently hold an A1 German certificate from the Goethe-Institut and I’m working toward my A2. I have also completed a First Aid course.

I would describe myself as hardworking, obedient, respectful, trustworthy, and reliable. In my free time, I enjoy playing football during the week, reading novels, and listening to soft music. I also love cooking, especially when my family gathers together.

I have strong childcare experience. From a young age, I helped care for my relatives’ children. After finishing matric in late 2024, I spent a few months in 2025 waiting for my results. During that time, I assisted my aunt with household duties and childcare for her son Mthabisi 8 and Nokukhanya 6— dressing him, taking him to school, helping with homework, and handling other duties while she was at work.

In September 2025, I began volunteering as a childcare assistant at Thando Daycare Centre with children aged 2 to 6 years. Because I was already familiar with childcare from looking after Mthabisi and Nokukhanya, the duties came easily to me. I truly enjoy working with children because I have a real passion for them. In early May this year, I left Thando Daycare Centre for a part-time job at Wanderers Golf Club.

I want to become an au pair for several reasons. First, I would like to improve my childcare experience by caring for your children. Second, I want to improve my German language skills by being surrounded by native speakers. Third, I’m excited to experience German culture firsthand, including events like Oktoberfest and local carnivals. I would also love to share my South African culture with your family, teach you some isiZulu, and show you games we play at home.

My goal as an au pair is to learn more about childcare in Germany, become more independent, and create lasting memories while supporting your family’s daily life. I am confident in myself and the work I do.

After my au pair year, I plan to return home to pursue teaching. I’ve always been passionate about working with children, and I believe the experience I’ll gain with your family will help me become a better teacher.


I have three siblings: Sibusiso, 29, an entrepreneur; Thandokuhle, 23, who volunteers with me at Thando Daycare Centre; and Andile, 18, a student at Africa House College.

My 50-year-old mother, Skhangezile, works as a domestic worker. She is a very hardworking woman who raised us to value respect, good manners, and kindness. I enjoy being around family — that’s how we were raised.

On weekends, we usually go out together when everyone is free. We’re often joined by my aunt’s son Mthabisi, 8, and my neighbor’s daughter Lubelihle, also 8.
