Family's Introduction to Au Pair

We are a family of three: myself, Aysha (40), Charlie (boy, 9y), Frederik (boy, 4y).
Three years ago, I decided to hire a young man as Au Pair to provide a male figure for the kids (we lost their 'daddy' in a road accident in early 2017). This was a great decision! Both kids really enjoy our last au pairs.
We live in a nice suburb of Zurich in Switzerland and can reach the city centre in 15-20 minutes with very good public transport connections.
OUR FAMILY
I am Swiss from the French part of Switzerland and I am fluent in French and English, and can also speak German and Dutch more or less fluently. Charlie was born in New York and is fluent in German, English and French. Frederik speaks a mix of all three languages. I speak exclusively in French to the children.
Charlie is a very energetic and playful boy and the au pair should be kind to him but also be prepared to set limits. Charlie goes to a great Montessori school and attends soccer practice.
Frederik is a lovely little boy. He is always smiling and is very easygoing. Frederik goes to the Montessori kindergarten.
We have a modern single-family house in a recent neighborhood full of families and young children.
Charlie plays fussball (=soccer) in the local clubs and loves it. He goes to training 2-3x per week and usually has a tournament on Saturday. He also goes to soccer camps during the holidays.
We love going to the mountains where my family has a chalet. In the winter we go there regularly on the weekend and during the school holidays. All three of us love skiing.
OUR DAILY ROUTINE
the kids' days run on structured routines during the year. During the holidays and on Saturdays there is a little more flexibility. Here is how the week-day schedule looks like:
- We all wake up around 6.45am, get ready and have breakfast
- Charlie and Frederik need to be driven to school every weekday at 7.30am
- The kids usually stay at school until 5.30pm (except on Wednesdays when Charlie comes home at lunch time)
- Dinner time is at 6.30pm
- Then the two kids get a shower before going to bed at around 8pm. They both go to bed quite easily and sleep through the night.
On Saturdays, we typically all go to Charlie's soccer tournaments or do some other kids-related activity either at home or somewhere else.
I have a demanding professional life as I run a successful online business. I go to evening events up to two evenings per week and every now and then I need to travel for a few nights.

Job Description

The au pair will be "on duty" five days a week, usually from Tuesday-Saturday. While the schedule is quite 'light' when the kids are at school, it will be 'fuller' on the days they will be at home (e.g. Wednesday afternoons, Saturdays, school holidays, or when the kids are sick). This is why it's important that the au pair remain available the days he is 'on duty'. This is great for an au pair who is studying on the side or doing another part-time online job, for example, but probably a little harder to combine with a second job in the city.
The au pair will need to be available 2-3 evenings per week to babysit the children, which means usually 1-2 evenings during the week and 1 evening during the weekend.
The au pair will also have light housekeeping tasks such as tidying up, setting up the robot vacuum cleaner, taking the trash out, filling up the soap dispensers, etc. The au pair will also go grocery shopping and cook healthy meals for the whole family (we have a thermomix robot for cooking so this is quite easy, no cooking experience needed), and run errands like bringing packages to the post or picking up dry cleaning as needed. The tasks are well-defined for each day and we use checklists (which can be provided in advance upon request).
A cleaning lady comes every week to take care of heavy housekeeping tasks and do the laundry.
As he will need to bring the children to school on a regular basis, it is imperative that the au pair has a driving license and be an experienced and confident driver.
The au pair will get his own bedroom (15m2) with a small private en-suite bathroom and an independent house entrance. The room and bathroom have recently been renovated with new furniture and high-quality bathroom appliances. The room has a small TV and wireless internet access.
The au pair will also receive a monetary allowance without any taxes or deductions. In addition, food when eating at home, a local cell abonnement, as well as public transportation within the Zurich area will be provided by the host family. We will also pay for the travel costs of traveling to Switzerland.
Also, we have had very good experiences with gay au pairs in the past. This is why if you're gay you are more than welcome to apply and we look forward to hearing from you ;-)
