Dear Au Pair,

We are looking forward to meeting you! We absolutely love learning about other countries and cultures. We also look forward to sharing about our American culture with you!

My name is Daryl, my wife is Parissa and our 35 month old son is Douglas (Dougie). We are the Naef (pronounced “Nef”) family. We live in Roseville, CA about 30 minutes away from the California State capitol city of Sacramento. Within the greater Sacramento area there are so many things to do. The downtown area has restaurants from around the world, museums, entertainment, we have our own NBA basketball team, concerts, etc. Roseville is a suburb but there are still many things to do here, movie theaters, restaurants, we have our own large shopping mall called the Galleria and lots of parks.

Dougie is the sweetest toddler. He smiles a lot; he has a good disposition and loves to play. He doesn’t shy away from strangers and thinks people who visit are going to play with him so he looks forward to seeing people. He loves to learn and his favorite activity is reading books. He would want us to read to him all day long if we allowed it. He also loves playing with his toy cars and trucks. He is just starting to show interest in Lego and block construction. He mostly stacks them to make the highest tower he can make, as tall as he is!

I work 5 days a week from home and Parissa works 4 days a week from home. I work for a title and escrow company as a computer system administrator (IT). Parissa is an Environmental Scientist for the State of California. We both work 8am-5pm so the childcare hours are 7:00am-5pm Mon-Thurs. The remaining hours of childcare will be used so Parissa and I can have a date. We like to go to the movies as a couple at least once a month.

Dougie attends a music class on Monday or Thursday morning with lots of singing and simple instruments like rattles and drums. On Wednesdays he attends reading time at the local library followed by play time at the park. He also checks out 10 books every week from the library. This is so we don’t have to keep reading the same books over and over.

You will be able to use one of our cars during the day while we are working and will also be able to use one of our cars for your personal time. We live very close to a Adult School called Roseville Adult School where you will be able to take your language classes. There are also many other colleges in the Sacramento area if needed.

My wife and I enjoy going out to dinner and to a movie at least once a month. This allows us to really connect and do something fun without having to attend to Dougie. We may use an additional date night every month to run errands or grocery shop. We would need you to take care of Dougie on a Friday night or a weekend for up to 5 hours once in a while. We try and make weekend’s family time. On Sunday mornings we attend Bayside Church and Dougie loves time in the Sunday school. You are always welcome to join us. That will be up to you. We know you will have things you will want to do in your free time and only have a short time in America to do them all.

We know Douglas will fall in love with his au pair because he is just a loving little boy. We hope our au air will also love him the same and care for him as though he is family. We want our au pair to feel a part of our family. We believe in honesty and open communication. Never hesitate to come to us if you need to ask a question or you need our help in some way. We also are a Christian family but don’t expect our Au Pair to be Christian. We do want our Au pair to feel comfortable reading faith-based age-appropriate books to Dougie and praying with Dougie before every meal. We would also love if you joined us for church on Sundays but we totally understand if that’s not of interest to the Au Pair. Also, we would like our au pair to not smoke and not get drunk/hungover while living in our home. We are okay with a glass of alcohol occasionally as my husband and I also enjoy a drink now and then.

Well, I hope this gave you an idea of what our family is like and how excited we are for you to be a part of it during your year in America. We will do our very best to make you feel like part of the family!

Work 40 hours per week: Monday through Thursday from 7am to 5pm. We will schedule an additional 5 hour shift every other week on a weekend day so we can have a date without our child. Intermediate English is required since our child is going to be entering pre school in the Fall and needs an au pair that can help him improve his language skills and develop his vocabulary. Also 3+ years of daily driving of an automobile is required. Our son attends numerous classes and activities each week that require the au pair to drive to and from daily. Daily meal prep and cleaning for our child while on duty.
Au pair will have a private bedroom with a TV that includes several streaming services for entertainment as well as high speed wireless internet. Shared bathroom with our child. Weekly stipend of $196 paid every Friday morning. 2 weeks of paid vacation per year (8 working days plus 4 weekend days) and 6 holidays. A dedicated car for personal use and a family car to be used while on duty with the child.
