Introduction
I' ve always lived in the same home near the Real Madrid's stadium and I have enjoyed walking with my dogs and going to the park. Also all my mothers family lives on the neighbourhood and I have spent my childhood with my grandmother and my 21 maternal cousins, time has flown by and nowadays my grandmother has 16 great-grandchildren and the family is bigger than ever.
My personality is calm but I am also in need of exercise. My main hobbies are reading, walking my dog Ray, learning about art history and photography. Apart from my mother tongue I am perfectly fluent in English, have an intermediate level of Korean and lately I've been resuming learning French. I have a drivers license and I can drive a boat. I have a film association for narrative and commercial job and I take the roll of cinematographer and director. I take great pleasure working with my hands and repairing things to the extent of my knowledge.
During my high school years I went to study to Vermont In USA for a whole year where I polished my English and greatly improve my cooking skills and learned to live by myself. Later on I studied History of Art in my hometown and finished in 2022. In 2020 I took part in an exchange student program at Seoul National University in South Korea as I wanted to experience a different culture and to get around in a new environment. Sadly my stay was cut short due the Covid-19 pandemic and ever since I've been yearning to live more abroad.
As for my experience with children I've been surrounded all my life with babys and children as my older cousin is already forty years old and has three children and many of my other cousins also have offspring. Frequently throughout the year I've baby-sit for many of them and every summer I go to visit my grandmother on her big vacation house on the South of Spain and I always take an active role on the daily care of the children who stay there. We often go to the beach or go in excursions hiking or swimming. This summer my cousins Patricia and Nacho brought their 6 children, four boys and two girls and two small babies.
Additionally I am working as a monitor at La Fundación de los Amigos del Museo del Prado doing workshops in English and Spanish with children between 5 and 12 years old. First we explain to the children which paintings they are going to see at The Prado Museum, next we go inside the museum and explain the art pieces to them making them questions and engaging them in the context and time when the works were made. Lastly we make a craft related with what they have seen at the museum and they take it home. In June la Fundación organices a Summer Camp for kids with extra time for crafts and outdoor activities with a great balance of getting them in touch with culture, leisure time and exercise.
Throughout the years I've worked doing many things, often I would take my time to meet my co-workers as I'm a bit of an introvert, but anytime I've worked with children or taking care of my nieces I've felt instantly at ease. In many instances I've struggled understanding other adults at first, but children are brutally honest and I always connect with that simplicity. That's what I like about working with them.
My motivation for working as an au pair is experiencing another culture and living abroad enjoying myself with children who, I believe, are the best companions for this, as they never get tired of asking and answering questions and are always open to explore, learn, and do new activities. I hope to learn a lot from them and joining a family abroad.
All of the best.
Jorge from Madrid.
