Introduction

First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Writing to you feels both exciting and a little nerve-wracking; I truly hope that by the end, you will not only know me better but also feel confident about welcoming me into your home and family. I am grateful for the opportunity to introduce myself and share my background, interests, and hopes for our time together.
My name is Seancqua Anne Sing, and I am 21 years old. I grew up in Verulam, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, near the vibrant city of Durban. Durban is known for its warm beaches, cultural diversity, and friendly people; an environment that shaped me into the caring, open-minded, and adaptable person I am today. I come from a small, close-knit family, and growing up in a loving home taught me the importance of kindness, patience, and supporting one another. I would describe myself as warm, reliable, and curious. My friends and family often say I am someone they can depend on; whether it’s helping with tasks, offering support, or simply listening. I enjoy building meaningful connections with people, while also valuing quiet moments to reflect and focus on my personal interests. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer and cooking; two hobbies that are very close to my heart. Playing soccer with my brothers taught me teamwork, confidence, and perseverance. I learned to cook through YouTube videos and with my mother’s help, which made it even more special. I also enjoy listening to music, spending time outdoors, hiking, walking, cycling, and being in nature; as it helps me feel calm and energized. I believe outdoor activities are a wonderful way to connect with others, and I would love to share these moments with your family. One of my greatest passions is cultural exchange. I love learning about new traditions, foods, and ways of life. Living with a host family excites me because it allows me to experience daily life as a family member, not just a visitor. I would love to share my own culture with you; whether by cooking a South African dish, teaching a few isiZulu words, or sharing stories from home. I understand that family life comes with responsibilities, and I am more than willing to help. I am used to assisting with household tasks such as cooking, laundry, tidying up, and supporting daily routines. I enjoy spending time with children; helping with homework, playing games, and being a positive presence. Don’t worry about the mess; I’ve been trained by my two teenage brothers and can tidy up efficiently (even blindfolded, though I don’t recommend testing that!). I value open communication and believe it is key to building trust and a happy household. I am respectful, patient, and willing to learn your family’s routines and traditions. If challenges arise, I believe they can always be resolved through kind and honest conversation. I am currently studying teaching, and I love learning, meeting new people, and exploring different cultures. Through this experience, I hope to grow personally, gain independence, and form a meaningful bond with your family; one that lasts even beyond the program. I would be honored to think of you as my “second family.”
Thank you sincerely for considering me. I truly appreciate your openness and trust, and I promise to bring care, positivity, and respect into your home. I hope this letter has given you a clear picture of who I am and what I can offer your family.
With warm regards,
Seancqua Anne Sing
