Introduction
Please accept this letter as my application for the Au Pair position with your family. I want to be able to continue to help people with special needs grow by supporting them in their day-to-day life.
During my college career, I began working as an I-PREP (Interview Practice and Review for Emerging Professionals) Assistant with AHRC NYC and found my passion for working with people who have special needs. I currently work as a Community Habilitation Therapist for a teenager with special needs. In this position, I map out a plan for practicing independent living skills, such as cooking and taking public transportation. In my current position, my client had a severe fear of walking under elevated trains. This came about after crossing the street when a train was approaching overhead, and the loud noise scared him. After addressing the trigger of the problem, myself along with his parents and teachers created an action plan. This consisted of him walking every day across one more painted line on the street, to eventually cross the road completely. Every time he completed a goal of his action plan, I provided positive reinforcement and encouragement. As a result of our flexible and creative plan, he is now able to confidently walk under elevated trains.
Because of the opportunity to assist people with special needs during a dynamic and exciting period of their life, I want to work with the special needs and disabled people. to help them achieve their goals. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications and any skills further in an interview. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best,
Sydney
