Family's Introduction to
Our family is very active (biking, running, dance, almost any outdoor activity, we like to try it). We have two kids (both girls). We moved from California to Copenhagen in April 2014 and have had several au pair since then always staying at least 6 months. Our current au apir will end her assignment in Sept so we are looking for a replacement. We know it could take quite a while to find the right person as we have very specific requirements (and I will not answer emails for those who do not meet the basic requirements of EU citizenship). The house is in Hellerup which is just north of Copenhagen (3 train stops to center of city or 7km by bike). Hellerup is a quiet, safe area with a lot of expats and middle income or wealthy Danes. It is on the coast (and there are 3 beaches within 4 km from the property) with easy access to the downtown of Copenhagen. Your mornings would typically be free so it is possible that a student with morning classes could work. But it is at least 28 hours a week of au pair work so this will not suit a full time student. We will interview and check references if available. The kids are both smart, energetic girls. The older one loves to read and do science on the computer. She is very advanced academically for her age. The 7 year old loves to play outside, sing and do art. She also loves animals (we do not have any pets). You will be expected to spend time with the younger one each day working on reading and writing skills as well as basic Maths. Denmark is a lovely place to live, but it is cold in winter (and sometimes also in Summer) and expensive. This job requires being outside in all sorts of weather on bike. The job will offer some time to take Danish classes or possibly study part time at one of the universities, but the afternoons are committed to the job. Job is both childcare and cleaning / home maintenance with regular schedule for both. During school holidays (including summer from end of June til early August) if we are not off of work the job could be full time 0830 to 1800 for some days. This is also possible if one of the kids is sick and not able to go to school. Will be given weekends off as well as Danish national holidays. At least 4 other weeks per year off (unpaid unless you chose to do housework in our absence) while family is traveling out of country (typically Christmas/New Years week plus a few others). Au pair is expected to "have her own life" and only join family for dinners Mon-Thursday evening (if desired). We prefer someone who is not completely new to Denmark (bikes, public transport, etc) & is comfortable forming own social circle. Biking and public transit are used to bring the kids from school and take them on outings so this is a must (comfortable to ride cargo bike). While we are happy to host au pair, we do not intend to include her in all family outings (especially on weekends as we want to maintain a reasonable amount of personal time with the kids as a family). Please see the interview we did in our profile. It has a lot more info about the job and our family.
We are busy American family looking for an au pair to start in early Sept or October. Job is for a minimum of 9 months but ideally 12. Job is full time au pair (means live in and salary is lower because you get room & board) for 2 girls. Typical day: Job is starting at 1230 daily with housecleaning until 1430. Then pick up the girls from school which is approximately 1.2km from our house. We have a "cargo" bike for au pair to use for this purpose. Must be physically fit enough to ride bike with kids and willing to do so as this is the primary means for transporting children. Then play with kids and take them to afterschool activities. Au pair typically will be making dinner once or twice a week (between Mon - Thurs). Job is Monday - Friday from 1300 - 1800 (1830 if doing dinner). And occasional (once per month) Friday or Saturday evenings. Au pair is expected to "have her own life" and only join family for dinners Mon-Thursday evening (if desired). We prefer someone who is not completely new to Denmark (bikes, public transport, etc) & is comfortable forming own social circle. While we are happy to host au pair, we do not intend to include her in all family outings (especially on weekends as we want to maintain a reasonable amount of personal time with the kids as a family). At least 6 other weeks per year off while family is traveling out of country (typically Christmas/New Years week plus a few others). These weeks are in contract and known well in advance so au pair can plan her own travels. We will not hire a non-EU citizen as the only way to do this in DK is to hire through Danish Au Pair program. We cannot use this program to sponsor a visa for non-EU person as the job is more than 25 hours per week. We will provide a contract and help with registration with the kommune as our employee which will give you Danish CPR number and benefits like healthcare. But we will not sponsor a visa for a non-EU citizen. Job requires taking kids to park and other outings (can use public transit or our family cargo bike). Making snacks for kids and occasional family dinner. Also requires doing all household laundry once per week and housework tasks daily (tidy children's rooms, tidy kitchen and floors, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, etc). The cleaning is daily from 1230-1430. It is a huge house we live in. We need au pair to help with both the house and the kids (but not generally at the same time...housework is scheduled to occur while kids are at school). Must be comfortable to plan activities for children and stimulate them intellectually. We do not allow our children to watch any TV during the day but have plenty of toys, games, and craft materials. We are happy to support (buy materials, etc) any activities our au pair wants to plan for the children. If the weather is good, we like the children to be outside for a few hours a day. Good English required. Must also have experience with paid childcare and recent references. In addition to competitive weekly salary, we pay for and provide a Danish based Smart(iPhone) or compensate you for local calling expenses. Location is about 1.3km from Hellerup Station in large family villa that we own. Au pair will have large room in basement (with two external windows) plus semi -private bathroom in basement (is also the family laundry room) and private entrance. Room for au pair can be furnished or not (your preference). House is very large and has large sunny yard. Kitchen and baths are updated. Wifi will be provided free of charge throughout property. Need to be positive, cheerful and organized, structured. Also comfortable to be both loving/caring with the kids but enforce discipline when needed. Kids are both very intelligent and need stimulation - different activities, trying new things, etc Both parents work full time and kids also have some activities after school and play dates with friends. We run our household with a schedule (not rigid but days are planned in advance) and we expect au pair to be comfortable managing this schedule. We offer a very attractive position but also are going to be quite selective in who we pick. This is the 6th au pair we will be hiring (current one leaves in Sept.
