For a month I volunteered at the Wilger Old-age home in Sasolburg.
There I was tasked with preparing three meals a day, keeping in mind the sugar, salt and spice restrictions as well as possible allergies or sensitivities. After the meals were ready, I set the table and served the food along with the proper medication for the specific residents. I then collected the disabled or im from their rooms and transported them to the dining room. There I fed them and gave them their medication.
After breakfast the residents had to be bathed, dressed and groomed.
During the day I did my rounds, keeping the residents company, providing individual attention, cleaning and dressing wounds and changing diapers. After lunch I took blood pressure and -sugar levels, injected insulin, gave medication and again tended to wounds. After supper the residents were washed and groomed. I then helped them with physical therapy and they were put to bed.
