It is very unfortunate that we must write this, but do so in hopes another family will not have the same situation. We contacted Ashley as we have others and she immediately contacted us expressing interest in our family. We passed emails and she provided her phone number and email so that we could conduct a more personal interview. My wife called her and she was very enthusiastic about the prospect and excited about what we offered. She lives in the midwest and we are on the east coast. Before offering the job completely and her accepting sight unseen, we offered to fly her out for a few days expenses paid to see first hand if we were a fit for each other. At the time she seemed like the perfect candidate. A date to travel was established and after receiving her info we booked a ticket. We then asked her to authorize criminal, driving and reference backgrounds. After several requests she finally authorized criminal and references but not her driving record. As we tried to confirm the plans for the visit and a couple questions she began not to answer communications. She finally answered my text and mentioned her mother having concerns about health insurance. I asked her to call my wife to discuss and she agreed in her words "10 minutes". I am overseas where I work so left it at that. The next day I spoke with my wife and found that Ashley did not call her. I then sent her a text asking what happened and received a 2 word response "talk later". I responded "ok, please contact us as soon as possible to confirm your interest". A full day went by and after hearing nothing, I sent another text to please let us know her intent as we are now out $500. The message appeared to be blocked and not delivered. So we have learned a valuable lesson as this is our first try at finding a Nanny / Au Pair. I at this point do not expect her to contact us as it seems to be conflict avoidance at this point. We only want to know her intent, nothing more. Great Au Pair has been fantastic helping us out and we at least salvaged two of the backgrounds for future use. The plane ticket we cancelled.

I write this as I said so that others may not fall into the same or similar predicament...our search continues. After almost 48 hours of no response and several pleasant attempts to contact her I felt compelled to write this for others to be forewarned.
