Family's Introduction to Nanny
Our family hosted an Au Pair from Brazil who was with us for 16 months, but she departed in February 2020. We are screening replacement candidates and will decide soon if we will hire a new Nanny, Au Pair or Personal Assistant. Let me take some time to share with you a few details about us.
My daughter, Caroline, and I live in a single family home in a nice community in the city of Las Vegas in the state of Nevada. Las Vegas and the surrounding area have a population of about 2 million people, but it doesn’t feel too crowded. Most of the activities, appointments, shops/stores, restaurants, libraries, churches and the airport are all less than a 20 minute drive from our house.
Here in Las Vegas we have our share of hot and dry summers - great for going in the pool. In the cooler months here in Las Vegas, we will visit the mountains, snow-ski, tubing on the snow, or hanging out by the fire pit cooking s'mores. Caroline turned 13 years old in June and is a very sweet and smart girl. She is in her 3rd year of intermediate school (or "middle school" as we call it). Her favorite subject is Lunch!*?#. and after that, perhaps History. Caroline played the violin in the school orchestra last year, but has decided to learn the French language this year (so if you can speak French, that would be wonderful)! Caroline still practices her violin and takes lessons after school as well. Some other school classes that she takes are: English, Science, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education and History.
On a typical school weekday, Caroline wakes at 6:30am, gets dressed and straightens her room before school, and packs her lunch and school backpack. I prepare her breakfast, and we usually sit down to eat at 7:00am. We depart the house around 7:30am and drive Caroline to school, which is about 15 minutes away. Occasionally, I will already be on a work trip and will have left the house before breakfast. I will need our Nanny / Personal Assistant to assume all of the morning duties and ensure Caroline is ready for school and gets there on time. Caroline gets picked up from school at 3:30pm, and once home begins her homework. Once Caroline is finished with her homework and chores, which include cleaning her side of the house and taking care of her cat, we will either exercise at our community fitness center or swim in our backyard pool. Our Nanny must be a good swimmer and enjoy physical activities. She will sometimes be responsible for supervising Caroline while she is in the pool. In the evening, we usually start preparing dinner at 6pm and eat around 7pm. Caroline enjoys cooking and helping with dinner preparation, and we would like our Nanny to participate as well. Sometimes, if I'm not home yet from work, our Nanny will need to ensure that Caroline's dinner is prepared and her homework and tasks for the day are completed. In the evening after dinner, we will relax and play games, watch TV or get in the Spa. After that, Caroline will bathe and get ready for bed, usually by 9:30pm.
On weekends, we will plan activities which often times include traveling and exploring something new. We live very close to a national park and enjoy hiking and getting up into the mountains. Additionally, our city, Las Vegas, has unlimited entertainment. We also enjoy just hanging out by the pool when it's warm or going to watch a movie at the theater. During longer weekends, we will travel farther away to snow ski in the winter or perhaps go to the beach or amusement park in the summer. Caroline and I enjoy cruising too - it's become our latest annual summer adventure. Our Au Pair must want to travel and see new places, and join with us on these activities as part of the family.
Caroline has a pet cat named “Kitty”. Kitty is an indoor cat and is very friendly, and he is also Caroline’s responsibility to take care of. Caroline enjoys playing with friends, reading, swimming, cooking, puzzles, arts and crafts, and watching YouTube and series on Netflix.
1. We are a family of two. I'm a single dad with a 13 year daughter who lives with me every other week. My work takes me out of town frequently.
2. We are looking to replace our current Au Pair with a full-time Nanny or Personal Assistant in early 2020 (preferably February or March). Our new Nanny will drive my daughter to school and activities daily, take care of household duties to include cooking and cleaning, manage the house while I am away, and help us plan vacations and activities.
3. We will consider a part-time live-out Nanny position for someone who lives in Las Vegas. Requirements include: Experienced Driver with license and clean record, good swimming skills, comfortable with pets, some cooking ability, great and positive attitude.
Nice to haves: preferably already reside in the United States or have visa/passport for USA, some skill with French language, some music talent, snow ski and snorkeling experience, good physical fitness, love of travel.
The most important quality that I require of our Nanny / Personal Assistant is Responsibility. It is imperative that you are a very responsible adult. You must be honest, independent, educated and a non-smoker. I do not mind if you drink alcohol, but please absolutely no drugs. Other desirable qualities include: Caring, Fun, Mature, Patient, Optimistic, Physically-fit, Flexible and Intelligent.
You need to be a safe driver as you will be driving Caroline almost every day to and from school, as well as to other activities, shopping, movies, concerts and many other amazing things to do in and around Las Vegas. Most of the driving destinations are a relatively close 10-20 minute drive from the house but will be on busy roads or on the interstate. You will be required to get Caroline to school and appointments on time and make sure she keeps up with her daily tasks, choirs and homework.
At home, Caroline is also responsible for her chores and one of your jobs includes assisting her with those. She must complete her school assignments nightly, straighten the areas of the house that are her responsibility including her bedroom, the game room, the common kitchen and the dining areas regularly. Caroline also assists with preparing meals if she has time. She enjoys cooking as does her dad. Additionally, we take lots of trips and travel quite a bit as a family and would invite you to join us. Some of these trips include hiking in the local mountains, rock climbing, snow skiing, going to the beach, going on a Cruise Ship, visiting national parks, and visiting the Caribbean, Hawaii or Europe. Because I am an Airline Pilot, my family flies a lot, so we see a lot of really cool and interesting sites in American and beyond.
