Family's Introduction to Au Pair
Greetings to all of the wonderful Au Pairs on this website!
We are a young and busy Canadian family that hails from the beautiful seaside community of Saturna Island. Most of you have probably never heard of it. It is a very small island off of the Southern tip of Vancouver Island (where you would find the lovely and much better known Victoria, BC). It is a truly breathtaking place to live and we would love to share it with you. We have lived here ten years as a family, although I also grew up here! I run an independent house cleaning company out of my home, and my husband runs a small landscaping business. Many years ago we hosted a lovely young librarian from Sweden…our first experience with an au pair and it was wonderful! I would be so thrilled if someone out there wanted to come and stay with us and lend a hand again! We have three daughters, who will be aged 5, 11 and 13. The 13 year old lives with us part time, and with her mother in Victoria part time. They are all very energetic and eager for activities! The older two enjoy big kid activities like swimming (we have a pool), biking, baking and cooking, and they are all Girl Guides ( I am the Girl Guide leader out here, too!) The little one is very busy and enjoys structured play time that keeps her hands busy (ie puzzles, little cars, sensory bins, play doh, slime, etc) and she also likes to climb and swing outside, and splash in her tiny pool when it’s hot. She also loves to be read to and she likes to help in the kitchen. The other two who will be around during regular care hours are my 13 year old niece who lives next door, and another girl from down the road. There is a sweet but shy at first big fluffy chantilly cat too. A little dog lives in the basement with grandma. We live in a very rural very natural environment. Someone who enjoys the outdoors and a slower pace would be ideal.
Your host family includes neurodivergent parents (dad has ADHD and mom is ADHD and autistic) which means we are real home bodies and we like our routines! Were very friendly, accommodating and always genuine, we’re not always the most social. We’re very good at organizing schedules to make everything work for everyone. Hope to hear from you soon :)
Unfortunately the au pair we secured for the summer of 2023 had been called home for a family emergency :( So we are hopeful for a swift arrangement. Everything is ready for you!
Job Description
Duties
-Basic minding and entertaining of children. Our youngest (5) will likely need the most attention. The other three (11/13/13) will mostly just need some loose supervision, and some light activity coordination would be great. Indoor and outdoor activities, we may be able to offer a vehicle at times for out trips (lots of things in walking distance too!)
Only three children reside in the home (5/11/13) the other (13) would only be in attendance during regular minding hours.
