Dear Au Pair,
Welcome to our family! This is going to be a very exciting year for all of us. Not only will you have the opportunity to experience life in America for a year or two, our family will have the opportunity to learn about a new culture and make a lifelong friend! Let us introduce ourselves. We are the Nelson family. We live in Lake Forest, Illinois, which is a suburb located about 30 minutes away from Chicago. My name is Brian and my wife is Pei. We are experienced Au Pair program participants who share an amazing 11 year old daughter named Cadence and have been fortunate to have many wonderful experiences with previous au pairs through the years. Both my wife and I also have children from a previous marriage who don’t live with us full time but occasionally visit us. Pei has William (24), and Jennifer (21), and I have Delilah (20), Grant (18) and Blake (16). We also Have a full-time live in housekeeper.
My wife and I own an international industrial technology business that keeps us very busy, so having help at home with Cadence is important. Cadence is a very bright and cheerful girl, with an amazing sense of humor and a very active lifestyle. She makes friends easily and is very excited to meet you! Cadence really enjoys keeping busy with various activities including cooking/baking, violin lessons, tutoring, swimming, boating, biking, going on nature walks, going to the movies, traveling, reading, playing games on her iPad, taekwondo lessons and hanging out with friends.
Cadence has slightly different schedules for the summer and in school (both have been included in the documentation for your perusal) but, generally speaking we need your help to get her off to camp/school in the morning and then again after camp/school for the various activities she’s involved with. Additionally, we would like you to help Cadence with her laundry, keep her room and toy areas clean and tidy, arrange playdates, homework, run errands from time to time, as well as enjoy some free time together.
Our ideal au pair is very simple to describe. We are looking for someone outgoing, assertive and active with solid driving experience and with good command of the English language who will love and care for Cadence as if she were her own. We believe in honesty and open communication. Never hesitate to come to us if you need to ask a question or you need our help in any way. We will do our very best to make you feel like part of the family.

We require an Au pair that is able to pick and drive our 11 years old daughter to and from school and her after school activities. In addition, we also require them to get our daughter ready for school on time (cook her breakfast) and help her complete her homework after school and stay on top of school in general. It is also required of them to help with getting groceries and other necessities twice a week and help cook our daughter dinner when our other live-in nanny has her day off.
