I communicated with Ana over several weeks, we had even had a WhatsApp video session. I had offered to pay her back for her flight ticket if she would buy it first but she wanted some reassurance that I was genuine, so I decided to buy her ticket for her. I felt it was a worthwhile investment and trust since she would be living at my house for a year or so. I offered to pick her up from the airport but she said she had a friend in Luton who she would like to meet for a coffee when she got to Luton as she hasn't seen her for a while. She said her friend worked in cargo at Luton airport. She asked if I would meet her later and she said fine or if her friend could drive her to me. I said if her friend could drop her off, that would be good. I understand that sometimes, the au pairs may be worried that they are going to a stranger's house and may wish to have a friend with them. To cut a long story short, despite various attempts at contacting her, Ana did not show up. We had communicated until 2 days before she left for the UK, I then sent her a message a day before to wish her a safe flight and to ask her to ring me when she got to Luton, so I could give her details to my house but got no answer. Perhaps she has found another position and used me to buy her ticket!
